Hello every one. I have Dell's 8.763 stock gpu drivers installed with the latest Vbios. I get flickering in bright scenes of gaming and some texture artifacts when i run games in CrossFire. But when i disable CF then things look better.

So i was hoping to find some solution for this problem and i am sure its a driver issue. Please tell me the perfect Driver and CAP for my system that will eliminate this problem. Crysis 2 is just round the corner and i want the best performance i can get out of my machine.

guys just out of curiosity, check on your CCC that ati driver has control over color management. Go to CCC >desktop management > desktop color> Reactivate AMD color control. Then report back.

EDIT: also, leave all the setting at default (color settings) under desktop managment. If you want to modify color settings do it through My built in Display

As far as better drivers/caps, be aware this is my experience, i'm really pleased with 11.2 / CAPS3

does this have anything to do with the flickering? Is it safe to install and use AMD gpu drivers and uninstall Dell's?

The only reported problems so far occur when you close your laptop's lid to send it to sleep. If you do that and then wake the laptop back up, you'll lose the ability to change the screen brightness using the Fn + F-Keys.

You certainly get better performance in games from the 11.2 drivers, although the flicking problem hasn't necessarily gone. That problem is caused by the scissor method of doing CrossfireX, where the card doing the top half and the card doing the bottom half of the screen get slightly out of sync. You can try using RadeonPro to force tripple-buffering on these games, which has been reported to help.

With some drivers yes, it has something to do with flickering (otherwise i wouldn't even asked to do this test, of course)

Yes it is safe as far as you are using latest V-bios

Flickering is now a way of life as far as BFBC2 and ATI drivers are concerned. ATI have stopped supporting the game so there will be no fixes. However 11.2 are not too bad and have reduced flickering by almost 70% on my machine.

And the best bit is we will probabaly get to re-live the entire experience when BF3 is released - oh the joy

I get it every now and again. Mainly when I am piloting the Apache - I'm quite accomplised and I suspect it's making my graphics cards work harder since I am covering more of the map at speed. ;)

Hi CptXabaras. I was traveling so couldn't check and reply. I did what u said and i still get flickering on my Dell Video drivers. I dont know when Dell will release new display drivers. I think its time i uninstall these and install the 11.2 drivers with cap3.
Or is there a latest version? Can you plz give me direct links to both the latest drivers and CAP. Should i use the normal uninstall method from the control panel to remove Dell's display driver or is there another way. Please let me know. Thanks.

    Found these somewhere else:

Note that on R2s it's perfectly fine to click the *first* express uninstall option when you're uninstalling through the ATI install manager.

To download the latest driver package, go to amd.com and mouse over the support & drivers link at the top right hand corner.

CAP4 is now the latest application profile update. After you've installed 11.2, go here: Rage3D to download it.

CCleaner can be obtained from piriform.com, and Driver Sweeper 2.9.0 can be downloaded from phyxion.net

i've replied your PM with 3 simple steps to install the latest amd drivers. you can also find similar steps clearly and elaborately outlined by Stevie in amd 11.2 thread first page. no risks involved and no way you can get it wrong so dont worry bout it.

Yes, that is why I even specifically said it was fine for R2s. R2=M17xR2.

That is the general driver install procedure you should be following all the time during each and every graphics driver install, regardless if it's dell to reference or vice versa.

I grab mine from Phyxion here: Phyxion.net - Driver Sweeper

Phyxion are the developers, so I go to their site to get the latest up to date version...2.9.0 I think atm.

Thanks Stevie. One question. Every time AMD releases a new driver, i have to do those uninstalling and cleaning steps that you mentioned in Alexnvidias thread? I never used to do it before when i had a desktop PC. And when Dell comes out with their new Video drivers for the m17xr2, should i install those or stick to the ones from AMD?

it's recommended for you to perform cleaning before installing new driver. i've always done that and never once i had issues with driver installation.

As Alex said, I always find it beneficial to clean etc before a new driver install. Not had any probs by doing so and havent had any probs installing either afterwarads.

Regarding AMD vs Dell, AMD will probably always be more up to date and better performance wise - once Dell have a driver released that is working, as 8.763 is (and is the latest for 5870 gpu's via Dell website), they tend not to bother updating them. I think 8.763 was released back in Sept 2010 so its a good 6 mths. AMD on the other hand release newer drivers with more frequency meaning chances are, they are more up to date and perform better.

Im sure you have heard other guys talking about this - thats half the reason that its important for us to be able to implement AMD reference drivers without issue, simply 'cos Dell dont bother to update the most important drivers, as far as gaming is concerned, very often at all!

So, yeah. I would uninstall/clean/intsall and also use the latest CAP release too for the best performance possible.
