    Hi,

I'm in the market to buy a Alienware m17x r4. I juts can't decide on which graphics card to order.

    Either a amd 7970 or a gtx 680m

Also not sure of the difference gain between the 3610qm and 3720qm

How much more performance can I expect when playing games on stock configuration playing games like BF3 and call of duty mw3

    Thanks a lot

    Ian

    1. Between the 7970m and the 680m it comes down to preference. The 7970m is much cheaper, but I've always disliked the way AMD does their drivers. With nvidia, you pay a lot more but you have an option for 3d and their drivers are a lot easier to understand and use (at least for me).

    2. 3160qm is probably fine for most games

    3. Well with bf3 you will probably be able to play it maxxed out with either card and get 45+fps. MW3 isn't really that demanding compared to other PC games because it's a console port. My system maxxes it out easy. ;)

just go for GTX 680M even if it's more expensive dosen't mean you need to skip a great card. You won't upgrade laptop soon so i suggest you to go for nvidia. And remember nvidia was and allways will be best for games. Cheers !

^^^ nvidia was always the best for games? hmm what happened when the 7970m came out way before the 680m? i dont think they were the best then. Even now, 7970m with the new drivers trades blows with the 680m. Either card is good

This dude is suggesting the 680 only because it is Nvidia. Don't listen.

You save a ton going with AMD...

First things first, the CPU might give you an extra 1 fps on CPU intensive games... otherwise no noticeable difference whatsoever.

    Secondly, 680M ALL THE WAY!

680M; Better drivers, more power efficient and IIRC lower heat, insane performance, all Nvidias features and 3D if you want (i highly suggest it.... MW3 at 150+ fps on a 120Hz screen... blew my mind.)

7970M: Equal performance for a much more affordable price. Nothing else is better than Nvidia except for value of performance for your dollar.

So I highly recommend investing in a GTX 680M, it will blow your mind and the Nvidia control panel is wonderful. I can play Crysis with MaldoHD texture pack maxed out, Metro 2033... and if you try CS:GO, MW3, or any game that runs at high fps... a 120Hz screen will blow your mind.

+ if you got the budget, you will NOT regret getting 3D Vision 2... if anything you'll probably send me a thank you letter if I convinced you to get it. From all the reviews I've read and peoples opinions, the 3D technology is INSANE... 100 times better than I could have ever expected (edit: it is honestly the best 3D technology I have seen in my entire life). When I first set up the 3D glasses, and watched the slideshow of 3D images after... I literally shouted "WHAT THE F***!!!!" ... it blew my mind

I thought with the r4 you get a choice starting from 3720QM then next is 3740QM.

Thats how it is in uk?
