The R3 supports up to 32GB, so 4x8GB. Well at least thats what the manuel says. On Alienware site you can only configure it up to 16GB, so 4x4GB.
I'm going to the shop tomorrow to pick up an SSD, Vertex 3 read/write 550/500 any good? Type: OCZ VTX3-25SAT3-120G.
Saw 8GB sticks on the website, if I now for sure it wil work giving me a total of 20GB I will pick up 2.

Ow damn its early in the morning and I had graveyard shift. I see the 8GB is made out of 2x4GB sticks. So nevermind.
-
well honestly are u gonna use more than 16GB of ram? i can not even see past 8GB at this time, if you wanna upgrade it many years from now then it may be worth it.
-
Got 4GB right now, going to buy 2x4GB, giving me 12GB is more then enough.
-
Placed my order for the Kingston HyperX 2x4GB RAM today. Will report on the results once in my hot hands next week.

They do make 8GB single sticks, The M18x has an option for the 32GB upgrade it comes in at a hefty $2,000 just for 32GB of memory. Mmmm I would love that, definately run a virtual drive using RAM, that would be a LOT faster than the SSD lol.
-
16GB at the shop cost about 130 euro. 4x4GB. I would expect 32GB to cost about 300 euro.
Going to the shop after my graveyard shift and ask them if they know any prices.

You can't buy 8GB sticks except from manufacturer right now. NOONE sells 8GB sticks, it's ridiculously hard to find.
-
I pulled the stock 4GB and installed 8GB of Hyper. If I were you, I would do the same thing.
I bought a key to upgrade to Win Pro, and I run a XP VM all the time, alt+tabbing back into Win 7. 8 GB is plenty for today. You can always pop in another 8GB under the keyboard if future applications call for it.
To think, I thought I was the bomb with a 386 with 3MB of RAM and a 120 Mb harddrive. Never thought I would ever need more than that!
Back to your regularly scheduled program. -
I got the 2630QM can I let the stock ram run at 1600 using one of the XPM profiles?
-
At the risk of being flamed, some people state that the 2630 will run 1600, some say no. With that said, your computer will come with 1333 ram, not 1600. I cannot say whether or not you can clock the factory ram at 1600 and have it work. Even mine, which fully supports the 1600 ram came with 1333. Hence my upgrade. Just as an FYI, if you want to add to the factory ram, you will have to pull the keyboard. Go to youtube and search for joebarchuck. He has a video tutorial on how to do it. I opted just to pull the factory and add the 2 4GB sticks.
If I remember correctly, you got 4GB of memory. That would mean the ram is on the underside of the computer, and it is really easy to get to. Under the keyboard, not so easy. -
I allready put the stock ram under the keyboard when I was fixing my lid to close perfectly because it was of to the right a little when closed.
If 1600 hyperx will work in my system I will buy it today, but need to know for sure. -
you should not mix the hyper with the stock ram. they need to match

Got 12GB 1333 now.
-
Got 8gb hyperx, runs smooth, dont think I need more than that for awhile.
Who got 8GB memory sticks in their m17x r3?
