So I had some people at my house and we were all playing some BF3 on our laptops. I never really wondered, but why do Alienwares have 2 audio jacks? I kinda remember some guy tellling me it had something to do with new headphones or something like that, but that was a couple months ago and with my attention span, I probably wasn't paying attention. Sorry if this is a /stupid thread.

Actually your m17x has four audio jacks, one of which is a line in (or microphone) jack and the other three are output jacks that allow you to connect an analogue 5.1 audio system, two pairs of headphones or a receiver thru the S/PDIF jack.

The two headphone jacks plus inline mic jack coupled can also act as outputs for 5.1 surround. One is the centre, one is the front and one is for the rear. The fourth is spdif which is optical audio out for compatible devices.
