    Why did they make the M17x R3 WORSE than the R2?

    I don't understand why the m17xR3 doesn't have an RGB screen or dual video card support. It'd be one thing if they offered video card options that were substantially better than the dual 5870's, but 1 6990 is 15% LESS than as powerful as dual 5870's. Is the 580GTX that much better than the 6990? I have a hard time imagining so, regardless of the price increase (nvidia are inherently more expensive than ati). I know they offer the new 2nd generation intel CPU's, so I can understand that the CPU is probably better on the R3, but I just don't understand why they didn't upgrade the video card option, or the screen.

    Is there something I'm missing? I'm just trying to understand, is all.

    Yeah you missed the introduction of the M18x. The M17x R2 used to be the flagship, it's the M18x now with dual video cards and a 4+GHz CPU but still no RGBLED.

    17x R3 is a replacement for the now axed 15x. Also to fill a gap they came out with the 14x to have a size variety that would apeal to a wide range of people.

    Why don't they carry RGB LCD's anymore? Also, does anyone know anything about monitors? Where can you buy a really nice RGB LCD? (desktop not laptop)

    They don't have RGBLED screens because of the move toward 16:9. The RGB LED was 16:10 only. If you want a good RGB monitor, look for IPS monitors. Best stuff around.

    PS The Dell professional line ie the Precision stuff do have IPS screens that cost about the same as the laptop as an upgrade.

    Isn't 16:10 > 16:9? Also, how does the GTX 580 compare to the 6990? How does it compare to the xfire 5870s and xfire 6990s?

    Yeah 16:10 is better but manufacturers don't like it for many reasons such as saving production costs by making a shorter panel and also that 16:9 is the general standard for media and film.

    If the user knows how to handle the 580m, they can produce good results. Stock for stock, similar to the 6990m but it has heaps of overclockability. Mine gets 18k for the Vantage GPU score which is a small bit more than the Xfire 5870m's. You can compare the 580m with 6990m Xfire but instead with 580m SLi.

    Man! I don't think 16:10 will ever come back nor the RGBLCD.....DELL PROVE ME WRONG!!!!! :mad: :( This can apply to all Alienware models.
