I left some 240 GB files to be synchronised between my r4 hard drive and an external hard drive. I left the house and came only to see the login screen. Right when I was about to sign in a few error pop ups showed up. Then I saw the sync toy continuing its work. But it also showed a few files that failed to be copied etc.

I check windows reporting, the errors happened right after it went to a sleep state and hence the usb port powered down disconnecting the External hard drive.

Why does this happen? Windows gives reason for sleep mode is idling! How is it possible?

Well, you can shake your fist at Windows logic all day, but if you want to prevent it from happening again:

control panel/power/advanced then adjust your power profile to 'never' go to sleep. Go through the entire profile making these type of adjustments so windows won't cut anything off until you hit the power button (e.g. turn off hdd)
