I own this laptop for 2 years and have never been able to get new drivers. Boy, I wish I bought a Nvidia video card instead of an ATI one.
I have an AMD Radeon HD 6990M.
On Dell website, the release date of the latest drivers is 29/07/2011.
Is there a way to get new one ?

If you check my profile I started a thread a few weeks ago with some responses from the community for how to update drivers for 6990m. Or you can search the forums for guide / method for 6990m.

You are quite right, Mojo Risin!

I have 6970M and I am experiencing issues with this old driver. Intel part of driver is so old, that it is not supporting QuickSync and has aero issues.

We are UNABLE to install latest intel driver - we will loose switching ability and we will see black/gray main screen.
We are unable to use 13.3 driver - because there is issues with IE10 and flash (IE10 fails time to time).

Please help in dell support forum, ask a question and make it up:

Can you guys tell me why Dell/AMD isn't releasing anything for us ? I mean, it gave me so much trouble that I won't ever buy anything from them again.

I was in the same situation like you.
    Finally I "resolved" the problem...

1º Download the ATI's Alienware M17x R4 driver. It includes the ATI 6900 series card of the Alienware M17xR3.

2º Download the Leshcat ATI Catalyst 13.3 beta driver

    Leshcat

3º Uninstall ALL ATI SOFTWARE and reboot when prompted.

4º Use Drive Sweeper to delete ALL ATI entries from registry, and CCLEANER too.

5º Reboot, install the drivers you downloaded on 1º steep and reboot.

6º Switch to ATI card, and install the drivers from Lescat WITHOUT UNINSTALLING NOTHING (right click and install as Administrator).

7º When prompted, choose the newevest Intel driver version to install and reboot when prompted.

That was the same steps I did and now I have the latest Intel and ATI drivers. :)

the above instructions should get you up and running with some decent AMD drivers for the 6990m. Best solution I've found though is to use windows 8. I haven't had a single bluescreen regarding video card drivers since I upgraded in October when the OS launched. Cheers.

I used to go through these loops. clean drivers, try to install, try beta drivers, get blue screens ...etc

I did myself a favor and that is because I never actually needed to use the Intel GPU.

    Install A12 bios (I assume it's the R3)
    Disable integrated graphics
    Install any AMD mobile driver.

But that is no excuse for Dell not releasing a new driver. I would still like a new OEM driver and it is time. Not saying Dell should release every damn AMD driver but we should get a post 13.X oem driver.

they basically gotta rewrite a good portion of the driver in-house because the r3 is one of the only systems that has the type of graphics switching it has. That takes quite a bit of time and money, and the r3 is over a year old now. So yea we are going to be left out in the cold.

I just download mine from AMD/ATi... I'm using the Clevo 6990m not the Dell one though so maybe that's why mine works fine...
