I guess it is because they have added support for it so everything is ready when they decide to add WiHD.
Wireless 1080p video transmitters could soon be built-in into Alienware laptops.
Unfortunately, he did not mention when we can expect to see wireless HD integration into Alienware products. It is more than likely, however, that future revisions of the current M11x, M15x, and M17x could very well sport wireless HDMI transmitters. The high-end processors and GPUs in these notebooks should be more than enough to support wireless HD gaming and videos. Hopefully we will hear more about this exciting feature later this year. "
So that video of that guy testing WiHD out that i linked to in the first post, was just a prototype. Bah!

Good new for 3D R3 owners then. It is possible to stream to your HD TV in 1080i with WiHD. Just need to buy some hardware or wait for Sibeam to be available.
Good to know, I was feeling kinda bumm that WIMAX would not work on 3D screen R3s. No more cable's. -
Anyone know where I can buy the Netgear Push2TV HD adapter for my TV? I've looked all over the net and can't find it... was supposed to be released already. If not, any other adapters than can take advantage of the WiDi 2.0 tech (Sandy bridge)?
On an unrelated note, anyone know why if I "search this forum" for "widi" this thread doesn't come up? I've had similar search problems in the past... What am I doing wrong? I had to scroll through 10-11 pages to find this thread. -
Ok i have searched around a little for you spinez.
It seems that Netgear`s Push2TV HD which is capable 1080p is not available yet. "Coming soon" it says on Netgear`s homepage. The Push2TV however is available right now at their homepage and can stream up to 720p.
You can find information about them here and you can buy the Push2TV:
Netgear
I have also been finding more about these technologies lately and there are some other options than Netgear.
I-O Data WDA-X1 WiDi but it is only sold in Japan. It is a reciever that support up to 1080p. I don`t know how good it works because i have not found any reviews of it.

Here you can buy it:

D-link MainStage a reciever from D-Link that supports up to 1080p which was announced at CES and said to be available in the first half of 2011. So probably anytime soon.
CES: D-Link joins WiDi wireless display crowd - CES 2011 CNET Blogs
Yes i know that it says first quarter in this article but D-link`s homepage says first half of 2011
So there you have it. Either buy the Netgear Push2TV and be satisfied with 720p or buy the WDA X1 from Japan and get 1080p. Or wait until Push2TV HD and D-link MainStage is released -
Sorry if this question has been answered, I just did a quick skim of the earlier pages. I am getting a M14x that has the - WirelessHD Experience Bundle
Internal 60GHz WirelessHD Transmitter and VIZIO XWH200 Universal Wireless HD Video and Audio Kit [$288.99]
Convert your entire A/V setup with WirelessHD technology!
I am a little confused though after looking at the pictures of that vizio kit. It shows the WiHD receiver which I understand and thought was all you need. But then it also shows what looks to be a WiHD out little box along with the reciever.
My question is.. with this kit do I have to have my laptop plugged into something to transmit the HD off of my laptop to the receiver? If so I think that would be lame. Plus who has a 3" HDMI cable to go from my laptop to the transmitter? If not why is there that extra part in the kit??
Without the Vizio part its "Internal WirelessHD Transmitter
Internal 60GHz WirelessHD Transmitter [Add $99.00]" -
Look at this! WirelessHD is instanly offered for the m14x. The Dell Online Store: Build Your System
-
"Internal 60GHz WirelessHD Transmitter and VIZIO XWH200 Universal Wireless HD Video and Audio Kit" consist of 1 transmitter, 1 reciever and 1 remote controller. The transmitter have 4 HDMI inputs where you can plug in DVD/Blueray players, PS3s etc. The reciever have 1 output, HDMI, that you plug in the TV. With the remote control you can switch which one of the 4 connected devices you want to view on the TV.
Here you have the kit: Amazon.com: VIZIO XWH200 Universal Wireless HD Video and Audio Kit (Black): Electronics
You do not have to plug the laptop to anything because it have a Internal 60GHz WirelessHD Transmitter inside the laptop that works as a wireless network card. Both of the options on Dell homepage have this transmitter. All you need is a reciever by the TV and a cable between the TV and the reciever. Or if you have one of them fancy HDTVs with integrated WiHD reciever inside you won`t need anything.

"The WirelessHD display mini-card option transmits data at up to 4 Gbps. This provides enough bandwidth to support full resolution streaming of 3D video content and games." -
So for those of us whom are in a country where WiHD is not a purchase option on something like the M14x - it is possible to purchase a 5HT44 WiHD Card (DMC/SiBeam) and install it into our machine, thus granting WiHD?
If this is the case it will save me the trouble trying to buy a USA model and having it shipped through a freight forwarder. -
Any word on when this will be available for R3 users? I'm not gonna get it, but I'm sure others would be very interested.
-
-
Just looked at the m17x R3 on US sites... WirelessHD is now available! in the same flavors as the m14x
Update:
Confirmed with Parts Sales:
Agent (Jeff K): "That is only available at the time of purchase, unfortunately."
Agent (Jeff K): "It is an internal component."
Me: "so there is no location to attatch this card to mobo? its built into the mobo?"
Agent (Jeff K): "Thats correct." -
So how does one upgrade the R3 to have WiHD capabilities? I don't feel like reordering it now that the option is available. Can't I just buy the internal transmitter and a receiver by myself?
-
Documentation
However, he's probably right about it being only available during the time of purchase. -
I do hope they will allow them for sale... I wont return mine for it... but i would pay $10 premium for it...
my wife uses the crappy version ( intel wireless display, on her Asus bamboo + netgear ) and loves it... except for the lag and the CPU performance hit...
Would like to see the 10ms latency in action -
internal wireless hd card part #: 5HT44 was $98.30 shipped with tax.
enjoy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! -
but buying the card does not get you going, you need the RX unit that plugs into the target TV and I've been unable to find these without a kit which you don't need
-
It's either buying the receiver from Dell which is bundled in a kit anyway or buying that same Vizio kit off amazon.
-
-
yes you can buy the wireless hd card separately but you will still need to buy the vizio receiver too for the tv.
-
-
I tore my R3 apart during the optical hdd drive caddy conversion i did not note any antenna dedicated to the WIHD connection slot. Am i missing it or when you order the card does it come with the antenna. I will be picking my WIDI push2tv adapter (v1) from ups after i get back from my trip but i wanted also get the WIHD adapter but from all appearances to me the antenna is flat not there. I see one extra wire but from what i hear its is for the third antenna of the 6300 wireless. I cannot believe a single antenna wire can push 60ghz.
-
^^ that's actually a very valid question! Good catch there exocet!
Just like when you order the R3 with the basic wifi option you only get two wifi antennae cables as opposed to three when you order the intel 6300 card, those of us that ordered without the WiHD transmitter might be missing the antenna cable for it. -
I don't need the transmitter that comes in the Visio solution... just the receiver.
Any one have good suggestion on a good only receiver solution? -
anyone else confirm the wires are not in there, I don't have the tools right now to look myself
-
-
I can confirm it. If you bought yours before the WiHD option was available, the antenna/connector cable will not be in there. Plus it's wired into the display panel, so even if you can get the transmitter card, no cable-no joy.
Also found out that *supposedly* any WiHD receiver can work, it doesn't need to be the exact one you can get bundled in from Dell (all though good luck finding just a receiver). -
Oh well, probably just saved me some money on something that I really wouldn't use enough to justify it anyway
I don't really want to hassle with a return just to add that when the Widi 2.0 solution will work fine for most of my needs, and if I ever really want to I can just go with another WHDI or WirelessHD transmitter solution that plugs into USB and can be put into my laptop backpack for travel.
-
Dell does have a kit like that from IOGear. It's only 30ft range and 720p, but it's small and seems easy to deal with. The transmitter looks about the size of a memory stick.
Just a suggestion for later.
Lucky you for the WiDi, those of us with the 3d vision can't even use that
Dell keeps insisting it still works cuz the models they have set up have it working. What the goobers don't know is the ones they have are a slightly different build than what customers can get, with a different version proc and an extra antenna. Found that out by talking to an actual engineer (how I got that lucky i have no idea) -
-
here is the parts you need for the internal widi:
5HT44 WiHD Card (DMC/SiBeam)
39PKF Sibeam Antenna Module (Includes Antenna) -
-
sounds like a major lot of disassembly to get the whole thing installed, not impossible for those confident to do it but probably out of range for most.
-
Bump. Would like to know if anyone has attempted this yet...
-
39PKF Sibeam Antenna Module (Includes Antenna) - 99$
Prices were given to me by a sales rep, he also informed me there's shortage of the parts and they are not available right now. -
Has anyone gotten WiDi to work? I bought the PTV2000 tonight, but everytime I try to connect it hangs on connecting and the widi program freezes. I think it might be because of the old intel drives that come with the AMD ones but I haven't found a way to install the new intel ones on dells site
thanks -
I still cannot get my WiDi to work either. I've used the Critical Update on the Netgear site, loaded new Wifi drivers, and the new WiDi update and I still get this message about Unable to send desktop to device. Did you find a way to get it working yet?
-
I've created threads for both WiDi and WirelessHD. Please begin using them. thanks to cloudfire for the initial background work which was used for both opening posts.
