WiFi performance drops and lag for first 30 minutes then improves?

we have two new m17x r2's that have limited internet connections via wifi then after 20 or 30 or more minutes (never same) they seem to work better or fine. The games stutter or freeze or skip but I do not find it to be cpu or gpu throttling.

We have three m17x r3 models that have no issues so it's not our internet router. They also seem to work better if we set up a local server network thru steam and play among ourselves.

I have two new 240w power adapters coming ( reportedly with some dell hassle) but tried the old r3 240s on the r2 and no difference.

The gpu frame rates are not the issue from watching the fps and makes little sense that they work better after extended playing.

I will try an Ethernet connection today to confirm absolutely it's the wifi but....

If the drivers are ok with the wifi and we have them plugged in on high performance what else would cause such poor wifi connection and throughput performance problems that get better after playing ( steam Gary mod) after 30 or 40 minutes?

Have searched threads and turning off save power mode in device manager wifi settings was suggested but don't know why it would be ok after 30 minutes on Both laptop if that were the issue and how could both be poorly seated wifi cards that make better contact when heated?

    Brainstorming please....hopefully enough clues above!

Could it maybe be the wifi cards? My r3 came with the cheap Dell adapter and it would do that sometimes. Never had an issue after I upgraded to the Intel 6300.

That is a good thought thanks.

We have the killa high end wifi cards. The pattern of initial laggy internet connection seems to be a key in solving the mystery.

It pains me to spend hours on the phone with a dell tech.....

We do find now that a reboot helps....CPU throttle after sleep hopefully fixed with Bios A05?

Change the wifi card to Intel AC7260 and your issues will be gone. I used to have (still have Killer 1103, up for sale if anyone wants it) installed in my R4 and after Windows 8 install had issues with the card. The card worked fine with Windows 7, but was not working properly over prolonged periods of time with Windows 8. I don't know if Atheros released any better drivers by now, but I could not be bothered anymore and just upgraded the card - best decision ever. No more wifi issues what so ever.

The latest drivers could be downloaded from here, always worth a shot:

    Thank you for your reply.

Ironically, the whole wifi crapped out on one of our r4 s the day after a windows critical update. Killer driver was no longer secure or useful due to digital signature being recognized. We have two identical R4s and second did not fail.

Alienware remotely downloaded newest killer wifi card driver from killer website saying they have had killer issues in past and newest drivers helped.

Seems they don't play will with windows 8 as we have W7 with killer wifi in two R3s for years without a single issue.

Will report back here if aok or issues in a week.

They also upgraded the bios to A04. We have not had fan or gnu heat issues. A01 was installed from factory.
