Hey, I was gaming the other day (brand new m17x R4) and zone 3 on my keyboard changed color for some reason. In alien fx it was still displayed as being the color of the rest of the keyboard but in reality changed from orange to green. changing the lights around i fould that zone 3 only displays half the spectrum of colors in alien fx.

First i did a hard reset , didnt work. Then i reinstalled alien fx , didnt work. Then i reseated the ribbon cables of the keyboard , didnt work. Finally Dell sent a tech and replaced the keyboard .... still nothing.

Now they want to replace the MOBO, which both the tech and i were sceptical to being the culprit.

Has anyone had this problem and been able to fix it ? I dont want to needlessly replace the MOBO if i dont have to, considering that in all probability it wouldnt work anyway. Please reply soon if your aware of the problem and have some suggestions... the tech is picking it up in a day or two to replace the MOBO unless im able to figure it out on my own.

Thx in advance people :) :)

We have this article to troubleshoot the Command center, it does include the best steps to try when there are issues with AlienFx. You can also try to reinstall the command center. Make sure you do it this way.

Hmm. The LED zones are controlled thru AlienFX via the motherboard. If reinstalling AlienFx and replacing the keyboard didn't resolve the issue, the motherboard would be a likely next step. Other than a clean install of Windows to eliminate all possibilities of OS or driver failure, there isn't much left that can screw with the LED's.
