When my laptop hibernates it will physically disable the Wifi. It doesn't drop the connection, you have to physically turn on the Wifi. I have attached a message of what Windows says...
As far as I know there is no "physical" switch on the outside of the laptop that turns Wifi on and off. I use that Icon on the top right, when I hit that it brings up a pop up that shows Wifi, but it will not turn it on. You have to restart to get the Wifi running. That Icon at the top right does work, you can turn Wifi on and off with it - but not when this particular problem occurs after hibernation. It will start working only after a restart.
So I restored the system back to May... before any of this trouble was happening and the computer was running really well. I figured that would be the last of this, but it just did it again.
Any ideas???
Thanks,
Sandy

Sorry this has nothing to do with the thread and i wish i could offer advise but i have to make note that if you change the last "i" in wifi to an "e" in your thread title it makes pretty funny reading..........atleast thats what i thought it said at a glance

I think there is some setting for this. Check CC.

I have not reinstalled the wifi card drivers. I figured if I restored the system back to a state months ago when this problem didn't exist, when the drivers were working fine, that would be the "equivalent" of re-installing the drivers. But I could still try that.
As for CC - I have checked and don't see what I am looking for. Since there is no physical button to turn on/off wifi (I have searched to find a "function" key but did not find any info on one) - you are left using the Icon to the upper right, which I have already mentioned doesn't work until you restart. -
Did you install anything recently that could of caused this (windows updates, drivers, etc)? Also, how often do you hibernate your laptop?

My laptop runs all day and can hibernate throughout the day when I am eating lunch or something.
Thanks for comments!

I did a format and clean install of the OS and the very next day - before I even had everything I wanted loaded (like all updates, programs, etc.) it happened again. So I changed my Power Plan from Balanced to High Performance. I changed the settings in High Performance to match the settings in Balanced (so it would go to sleep just like it did in Balanced) - the only difference is with High Performance it never lets the wifi go down (if you were using battery power a lot this would not be a good option for you.) Since doing this I have had no problems with the wifi severing. So, it's not really solved as it should not happen at all - but with this work around this problem is no longer bothering me...

Go to hardware device manager. Go to the properties of your wifi card. Make sure the box to disable wifi on sleep in not checked or whatever. Go there and have a look around.

Hi TearTaker,
I have checked there - and under Properties/Advanced there is a setting to, "not allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" but enabling/disabling that did not work. Only changing my Power Plan was successful with this particular problem.
Thanks for your input though!
