    Hello,

Yesterday a technician came to my house and replaced my motherboard.
He opened it like a monster, throwing, let memory fall out of his hands and people talking about warrenty etc.
It was really dissapointed to see somebody see destroying my laptop.
It was he was working @ a metal factory and then when closing up he repasted the cpu and gpu and that was also horrible so i did it over.
what i mean with horrible is putting on new cooling paste on the old one and it was like 20 doses in one :/

anyway, i have a other problem now.
My Wifi isnt working, it sees the adapter but i cannot turn on, also not with the airplane button, bluetooth is working.

So drivers installed correctly (I even reinstalled windows 8 in hope off).
So what did this technician miss??
Is there a inside button? or the airplane button not good attached or i dont know....
It's so weird, i cannot turn my wifi, if i check in wifi options it says this.

    Wifi (uit) (dutch windows 8)
    Wifi (off) (i geuss translation)

    Hope you guys can help.

    EDIT: it's about a alienware m17x R4 with killer 1103-n.

You could open it up, remove the keynorad and make sure he reconnected the right cables and/or all of them. They are quite fiddly so theres a chances he didnt attatch one correctly.

I recently had my mobo replaced as well (though my tech was a bit nicer about it, good repaste with IC diamond, etc) and had a problem where the wifi adapter would randomly disappear. Did a re-install of the wifi drivers, and it works fine now. So, have you tried to re-install the wifi drivers? And good luck!

yes i tried that and that didnt work, or even reinstalled my windows 8 and the drivers.

The technician was a real so i think there the problem is, he said you can call dell back when still not working with proper drivers....

In that case, I would call dell alienware and tell them that after a technician replaced your motherboard, your wifi does not work and you have done a clean install of windows and all relevant drivers, to no avail. (seriously, tell them everything you have done at the beginning- can save hours. ESPECIALLY the windows reinstall.) Ask for either a replacement mobo or wifi card (and you might get a step up on the wifi if you ask nicely) and ask for a tech to come to you tomorrow. General rule of thumb- don't try to fix hardware they broke, let them replace it. (and get on the record as having a problem)

Once again, good luck- failing hardware is never fun.

Same thing happened to me once during a repair. Dell sent me a new wifi card and all was set. When you call them have your computer connected to a router the old fashioned way. They will do their thing and send you a new card next. They will probably update your bios and reinstall the drivers before sending out the new card.

Try the wireless button on the top of your keyboard.

    R4_wifi.jpg

See if that turns your wifi adapter back on.

As for the terrible service tech, I'm not surprised in the least. The ones that have been to my home have manhandled my R2 in way that are criminal.

I dont know how these people can be a technician, even i can do it like this :/

Please send us an e-mail to [email protected] and we'll help you with this case. It seems to me that the WiFi card was not properly seated after the replacement. Try updating the BIOS to the latest version before that.

You should report that tech. Dell contracts work out to other companies, so Dell should know that the company they used to service your computer isn't up to Dell's standards.

If he treats a high-end Alienware that way, I'd hate to see the way he treats an Inspiron.

Sounds like he's better off working in a metal factory instead of fixing delicate electronics.

Whenever a tech has to work on my machine, I politely but firmly mention straight up at the beginning that this is my baby, please be gentle with her, ie, if you make it worse than before, you bet I'll be calling your supervisor. But, if you do a great job, I will let your supe know as well...and I have! There is one lady in my area that is like a surgeon with these machines. Dell usually does a follow up call after the service to see how things went.

So far, all the techs have respected that except for one guy, whom I reported.

All the techs in my area suck. They they only bring in two things.. A flat head and a Phillips. No pry tool no anti static anythings.

Yeah, that sounds about par for the course. I've had one tech show up like that. The others actually had an anti-static mat and a selection of tools to get the job done. Didn't mean they actually knew what they were doing but I will give them props for being prepared at least.
