So I've had my m17x r3 for just over a year and decided to clean it. Watched a video on how to remove the back and fans safe and I did as follows. After turning it back on my laptops wifi doesn't work. I've tried a system restore to 5 days ago, didn't work. Checked the fans were in and everything else, check. Tried uninstalling mcafee and restarting. Nothing.

What have I done and how do I fix this?
I'm using my iPod to post this because I have no other Internet access.

So you pulled apart your system to clean the fans and whatever else on the back side of you laptop only...? Ok, go into device manager (Control Panel < System and Security< Device Manager) select the "network adapters" (do you see any yellow flags? if not continue with steps provided) disable your "intel(R) Centrino(R) wireless-N" (or whatever wireless device you are using), then re-enable the adapter after it has been disabled, wait about 1-2min to see if it connects to your wireless router. If this does not work please take a screen shot of your "network adapters" and upload here as it can be a conflicting hardware issue with one of the other network adapters which can be pinpointed here, thanks.

Did you try to reconnect the wifi card? May be it got a bit loose when you were taking things out to clean =P.

If you feel confident enough to check the wireless card connection, follow your R3 manual as damage is easily caused by improper tear down. Honestly the wired connections had to of not been properly secured in the first place or defective or even the card just came loose from handling. Reseating the card and two cables would be my last option after troubleshooting.

    Network adapter Intel(R) centaurian ultimate-n 6300 agn
No yellow flags, disabling did not work, I have no idea what the wifi card, it's cables or the antennas look like
Is it possible to give it to a dell technician to analyse it for themselves?

Here's how you remove the wireless card, just make sure the cables are correctly connected and the adapter enabled.

If you're still having trouble connecting send us an email at [email protected] with your service tag, phone number and a link to this thread. I'll look up your case and contact you soon.

you can also try and toggle the WiFi switch above the key board, the second to last button on the right (looks like and antenna).
