Hi guys I'm ordering my m17x r3 next week it will be stock apart from the 6990m and the screen upgrade, now as I built my last system which was an I7 920 desktop with a 4870 1gb and 6 gig of ram do you think I will get much better performance from the alienware than I would have from my old desktop. Or would I not see much differance.

Yes, the Mobility 6990 is based on the desktop HD 6870 GPU with slower clockrates but still faster than your 4870, also it's aDX 11 GPU.
The stock 2630 should be better too and plenty fast -

the sandy bridge i7 have a nice performance boost over the 1st gen i7 wich is a nice thing. The turbo tech v2 performs alot better as the 1st generation series.
The 6990 is one of the 2 fastest mobile gfx cards with 2gb of ram its a beast.
The alienware design is epic aswell and the build quality on these laptops is one of the best out there if not the best.
Not to mention the lights n stuff on it ;p
But then again for the price u pay for it it better be on par with a decent gaming desktop. With the laptops being fairly upgradeable in the future their a good buy for the long run.
ofc a desktop at this cost will run circles around it but will it look as cool this the m17x at the same time ? ;p Its like the ferrari among laptops ^^ -
Yeah it's the looks and the lights I like haha I could build a desktop a very good one but I just love the look of these alienware laptops any way I suppose I could still get most of my money back if I sold it on next year
Will I be impressed ???
