The sockets are compatible, but unless dell releases a bios that supports the IVY bridge on the H67 chipset (found in the R3), the Ivy bridge CPU will not be recognized. it won't work. You won't even boot

Now from a business perspective, Dell will never release this bios

Of course not. They couldn't sell the R4's then.

Good stuff. +1 Rep. cartman is right, it won't fit, there might be a BIOS (unofficial) out there for it to work but it would not be supported by us.

one more reason for me not to go with dell again lol. If they wanted to not only sell laptops, they'd do well to keep their existing customers. a happy customer is one who will return for a buy in the future.

not allowing me to upgrade from my 2630QM to a 3610/3720 is a fault on their part. Just means next time i'll go ACER, ASUS, or MSI depending on what im in the market for. lost sales just because they dont want take a couple hours to release a new bios. very costly on their part IMO.

That comment is so off base, it's not even funny. First off, the chipset in the R3 is an HM67, not an H67 (desktop chipset). Second, the desktop platform motherboard manufacturers are the only ones engineering BIOS updates for the desktop chipsets. If you want to squawk at a company, squawk at Intel. Dell has nothing to do with this.

A hack attempt was already done and the results are posted here: http://forum.notebookreview.com/har...ridge-mobile-3920xm-tested-6.html#post8435171
