Will the m17x r2 cooling be able to handle constant i7 740qm 1/2 core turbo?

    Hi all,

Today there was a clearance sale at a local gameshop (only old games). I got myself a bunch of good deals on some "vintage" games (NFS MW, NFS UG2, Flatout, Flatout 2, etc).

I will "mod" all of these games to run at 1200p, which is rather taxing for the cpu.

The problem is that these games are from 2005, hence they will not support more than two cores max (I suspect some may only support one core). This will result in 1-2 cores of my cpu going into turbo, and will result in higher than normal temps on the cores that are in turbo mode.

My m17x is still not working at the moment, due to a broken power button so I cant try 1,2 core turbo yet.

Will the m17x cooling + (cm storm sf19) be able to keep the cpu from throttling (I do not want to turn off the turbo if heat does not cause an issue)?

    Thanks in advance.

The XM chips produce a considerable amount of heat. Your 740 won't pose any issues. I have a lot of fond memories of the NFS series the way it was back in the day. Enjoy those bad boys!

Of course it will handle it. As a matter of information i get less heat running 2 cores @ 3.5Ghz each than 4 cores @ 3.0Ghz

A month has nearly gone, and I have heard the "Tech coming tomorrow" like 4-5 times now. All I have got is a bunch of false alarms.

The latest info I have got is that they do not have the part in stock, so they are importing it from usa.

I really hope that this gets sorted out soon.
