Hey guys-gals, got some questions for ya. Im not heavy into pc's. I like to play the ocasional game...mostly rts type games. I have an e1705 right now and it has been a great laptop. My last 2 games were Supreme Comander 2 and Napoleon Total War. Had to turn graphics down to low on both to be able to play. I want to get Starcraft2 but i know this poor think can't handle it. Im not into tweaking and overclocking and all that stuff, i just want to load the game and be able to play. Got a limited budget and i have come up with this build. I would like ya'll to take a look and let me know if this build will let me play Starcraft and still others for a couple of years. Thanks in advance.

My main suggestion would be to go for the dual 5870 (Crossfire) graphics option, if your budget is capable of stretching that far. It'll help to run games at a higher frame rate / detail setting. However, if your budget doesn't stretch that far then what you've got is fine.
I see you've got the Bluetooth module in there. Was that something you chose to put in, or was it a no-choice option? If you have a choice, and don't explicitly need it (e.g. for a wireless mouse or talking to your cellphone) then I'd suggest ditching it. It'll save you a few dollars, and you're not likely to use it otherwise. -
Nice system will play most games fine for years LED screen is the best. Agree with the other post CF if you can afford it, but you dont have too.Good luck

You've done a good job of getting the bare basics, but I would also find some way to get that 2nd GPU. If you get the current setup, and decide to upgrade later, you'll have to get the 2nd card AND the 240w power supply.

Thanks for the inputs. Im not a heavy gamer, hell, i just got dsl about a month ago. I just like to play strategical type games. I have been doing some reading here and i didn't want to take a chance with overheating runing the crossfire setup. I dont want to have to ship it back or such if it starts with all the heatup problems. I got it in the cart right now. I saw where they have a 15% deal right now and i don't want to pass that up.

I don't know about the over heating you speak of. I run a 50Mhz overclock on both of my cards and use Throttlestop to bump my CPU TDP up to 75 watts. I've tested these settings with no laptop cooler. GPUs get to around 85° C, and the CPU around 65° C. You'd be running no overclock, so you'd be well below these settings. Get a good notebook cooler, and overheating would not be a concern.

Hmmm....things to cogitate on. I thought i had read some reviews of overheating problems with the xfires. Thanks again.

If you don't overclock, Crossfire will not over heat. I don't overclock my GPUs and I get more than adequate performance from my games, including Far Cry 2, Battlefield Bad Company, and Modern Warfare.
Will this suffice?
