    Hey guys,

So I'm doing a clean install of Windows 10 on my Alienware 17 2013 model. With the way Windows 10 is it looks like it already gets the wireless going for you. Then when I got in and started to install drivers I noticed that windows update installed ever driver I needed except for the chipset drivers and I think the USB driver.

Has anyone done a clean install yet and if so how did you install the drivers?

My machine came with windows 7 so should I use those drivers or the windows 8 drivers?

I'm kind of confused because dell hasn't released drivers for Windows 10 yet for my machine.

    Any advice would be great!

Install the windows 8 drivers, I haven't had problem so far with them.

OK one other question. Since windows 10 updates automatically how can I prevent the updates from happening until I get all the drivers installed? Especially because it finds almost every driver I need but then 90% of them end up failing through windows update.

there should be a tool that stops updates from downloading.

Yeah I know of that tool but during the clean install of windows 10 it wants you to connect to the Internet to install critical updates. Can I jus skip over that and install the drivers and then turn WiFi on afterwards?

Also should I be using the windows 8 or 8.1 drivers. My computer came with windows 7. I'd think I'd need to use the 8.1 drivers from Dell but I can also select drivers for 8.

i can tell you that you can skip connecting to wifi to update critical things while installing, i did it and im on an m17x R4 which dell apparently wont support windows 10 on at all (according to the drivers page). i installed windows 10 and then started installing drivers from windows 8.1 (i was coming from a windows 7 install, only retaining personal files but no apps) and then seeing what drivers i could update with windows update.

OK awesome! That's what I'll do then. Once I get the drivers installed I'll let it connect to the net afterwards and do updates.

Reason I want to clean install 10 is because I keep getting BSOD during instalation due to the Nvidia drivers. This way I'll know that everything is in working order and I won't have to pick my way through all my applications to see if they still work or need to be reinstalled.
