This is just an FYI in case it hasn't been posted yet. Everything works just fine on the R3 with Windows 8. You have to load a couple of drivers. The driver for the freefall sensor and the OSD software which contains the ACPI driver for the battery. That gets rid of all yellow exclamation points. I did load the current USB 3.0 drivers since the ports run at about 2/3rds maximum speed with the driver Windows 8 selects. Alienware control panel works fine. I see no hardware related issues at all. The 3D function is just fine too.
The only thing that does not work as far as I can tell is the workaround that fixes the HDMI input for 3D models. I entered the extra value into the registry but it does not do HDMI in. It flashes on for a second and then goes black. I don't consider this a deal breaker but I thought I would mention it in case you are a heavy HDMI input user with a 3D screen.
As for how good or bad Windows 8 is, I will leave that up to you. I'm kind of indifferent. It works fine. It's fast but it's also a clean install and I have an SSD so everything is always fast. As far as I can tell anything that works on Windows 7 will work on Windows 8. I have had zero problems using any Windows 7 x64 drivers that I've needed for anything I plug in. The only driver that was a little odd was the Samsung drivers for my Galaxy S3 phone. It said something about the software not running properly and offered to re-run it in compatibility mode. I said Yes and it installed perfectly. Phone gets picked up every time I plug it into any of the USB ports.

+rep for the feedback! I had the dev preview installed for a while, but then reformated back to win 7. Worked great when I had it, just took some getting used to. I'll prob switch to windows 8 full time in October though.

Same here, works very well, I just had to turn off intel graphics card as I have had issues with graphics driver.

I'll be taking advantage of the £14.99 upgrade option however I'm gonna pay for it on DVD and just keep hold of it till SP1 or Windows 9.

Hi guys
I got Windows 8 Professional running on my R2, and have a problem with Bluetooth. The Dell 370 card (from Broadcom) is not even recognized. I've tried installing several different drivers, including one directly from the Broadcom website, and the BT device is not even listed on Device Manager, all installations of the driver, even setting Compatibility options and running as Admin give a dialog indicating that the software has serious compatibility issues with Win8 and will not let me install.
I also had the CP and RP versions installed on a Studio XPS 1640, (same bluetooth card) and worked fine with Windows drivers and I could install the Widcom software over it, but also since upgrading to RTM have the same problems as with my R2, BT card is not recognized and cannot install drivers.
Anyone having this issue with R3 or R4s? which BT module do you have?
Cheers
