I recently upgraded to windows 8 and just one issue. My bluray drive will only play dvd's and I have Total Media Theater 5 & Windows media center.

I use K-lite codecs pack. It has never failed me. Has all the codecs to play just about any audio or video file out there.

Blu-Ray requires paid for Codecs. I don't think windows 8 natively includes them.

Hello U2WAR,
Which M17X do you have? If you have an official WIndows 8 supported model, you can download the Cyberlink Blu-Ray software using My Dell Downloads ( https://smartsource.dell.com/Web/Welcome.aspx?ReturnUrl=/Web/Login.aspx). No version of Windows can play Blu-Ray out of the box. If you install the official Windows Media Center pack ( Add features - Microsoft Windows), you will get native DVD Playback. Good luck!

I have the r1 with intel core 2 quad, nvidia 260m SLI.
-
What did you use in Windows 7 to play Blu-Rays?
-
The M17x R1 is not a supported Win8 platform, but you could try cyber-link from my Dell downloads and see if it works.

Total Media Theater 5. The windows 8 app said it was compatible except ms word & broadcom bluetooth adapter . I do have both windows 8 & windows 7 on separate hard drives but I prefer win 8.
-
Again, try k-lite codec pack. It contains the codec files necessary to play Blu-Rays.

Ok the web site released an update for windows 8. All is well.
-
where can i get this update? -
The update for Total media theater 5 is on the arc soft site.
-
Is that possible? Maybe for unencrypted/non-commercial Blu Rays, but it woudln't work for commercial, would it?
Should be a moot point for me as I buy my systems with Blu Ray drives (so they include software for 'em) anyway.
Wish Microsoft had added native Blu Ray support rather than removing DVD support! I haven't had to mess with having a separate program fro DVD in yeaaaaars.
