    Hello All,

I have recently installed windows 8 64-bit consumer preview on a virtual hard disk running on my m17x R1.

I am unable to install version 295.73 of the video drivers gotten from laptopvideo2go. I have replaced in .inf file and the correct hardware is detected by the nvidia installed but the Graphics driver fails and I am given a large window of information that says "Nvidia Installer Failed"

I have tried other driver installs but I have always had a similar issue with only 1 exception - I was able to successfully install the A03 drivers provided on Dells support website. Unfortunately the performance of the A03 driver is poor and when I startup my computer I often get graphical stuttering that my computer never recovers from.

Can anyone help me get these newer drivers installed please?

    Thanks!

By the way my graphics cards are SLI 280m with the 9400.

I can't use any of the 280Ms now

if I disable the Hybrid and intergrate options, I can't even see the starting LOGO...

EVEN install the 197.16 driver ,the screen will become blue/green/red/white ....and loop :(

Mitsuhide, you have a thread related to your issue and still haven't answered my last question, please refrain from posting in other threads unrelated that tread a different subject.

Wuzawuza, make sure you download the driver for the correct Windows version (64x) and use this file after extracting it:

I managed to fix my stutter issue by disabling the 9400 geforce card in my bios and then I installed more up to date drivers. i guess windows 8 doesnt like hybrid graphics config

    Hi Guys,

Just adding this since I’m sure my Alienware buddies may face the same problem.

I landed here trying to figure out a way to install the latest Nvidia drivers for my Alienware M17x R1 with GTX 260M running Windows 8 64 bit. On my Windows 7, I have always been able to install the latest drivers by using the customized INF files from LaptopVideo2Go: Drivers . But for Windows 8 this trick no longer works out of the box because Windows 8 enforces Digital driver signature and this cannot be turned off with just one click.

The trick to get this working is to first download the Latest driver and modified INF from here.
    LaptopVideo2Go: Drivers

Extract and replace the modified INF.

Then follow the steps here Updated: Disable Driver Signature Enforcement in Windows 8 | LaslowNET to disable driver signature enforcement. Now you should be able to install all the latest NVIDIA drivers. (Note: This post is a bit old, hence the Metro option names on Win 8 have changed a bit)

Here is the proof….. No more stuttering audio, and I can push my Graphics to the max.

Oh nice, thank you! What about the 9400m, does that work, or do you have to disable it in BIOS? :)

Unfortunately the 9400 or the 9800 (i think) does not work with this. If you dont mind having an older version, the 280.26 was the last official digitally signed nvidia driver to support the hybrid graphics. I have disabled mine in the bios, since I use multiple monitors and dont ever need to use the integrated one.

My video drivers are now running rock stable.. But does anyone of you experience problems with the audio drivers? Like a REALLY slow sound control, and DPC latency/audio stutter?

Ok so I did all that but the NVIDIA Control Panel only shows an option for power consumption and that's it. No 3D options or anything! What do I do?

Yes it will but you will have mod the ini file on video drivers in order for it to work. There is a thread already on this topic as I had this issue when I owned an Alienware m17x R1 with the 260m graphics card.
