You can try doing it this way. Also make sure that you use only video drivers from the DELL website. Otherwise it won't work unless you use a modified INF file. Anyway it'll probably be better to get back to Windows 7.

    Hi Guys,
Just adding this since I’m sure my Alienware buddies may face the same problem.
I landed here trying to figure out a way to install the latest Nvidia drivers for my Alienware M17x R1 with GTX 260M running Windows 8 64 bit. On my Windows 7, I have always been able to install the latest drivers by using the customized INF files from LaptopVideo2Go: Drivers . But for Windows 8 this trick no longer works out of the box because Windows 8 enforces Digital driver signature and this cannot be turned off with just one click.
The trick to get this working is to first download the Latest driver and modified INF from here.
    LaptopVideo2Go: Drivers
Extract and replace the modified INF.
Then follow the steps here Updated: Disable Driver Signature Enforcement in Windows 8 | LaslowNET to disable driver signature enforcement. Now you should be able to install all the latest NVIDIA drivers. (Note: This post is a bit old, hence the Metro option names on Win 8 have changed a bit)
Here is the proof….. No more stuttering audio, and I can push my Graphics to the max.

    Whoo! Hoooo!!

Vivektj, Thanks for this! I'll surely use this a reference in the future when I decide to do the jump to Windows 8. I'm also sure that this will help other members who are faced with the same situation.
