Has anyone had this?
So far ive had issues with Window Aero which seems to have been resovled but im constantly getting random freezes. Usually, if i wait 5 mins it goes back to normal. But it seems to be happening more and more.
Anyone else getting this problem? Anyone have a solution?

Are you on firmware 0002?
-
How do i check that?
-
He is referring to your SSD. Run HWinfo32, find the SSD under Drives, then check the firmware version.
-
I think its also listed in RST.
-
-
Then update to 0002. It will fix the freeze problem.
Just burn as iso to a cd, boot of cd and follow instructions. Wont take more then 5 min.

Ok thanks. It wont mess with my comp if change the boot order in Bios then? -
You dont have to do anything in the bios.
Just reboot and press F12, choose to reboot from the optical drive. -
Ok so i was just readin the install guide. Its says it will not work if the drive is in ACHI, which is what my drive is in. is it safe to change a drive you are using to IDE? It wont mess anything up?
-
It will work, dont worry.
-
What its ok to chage from IDE from ACHI?And then change back again after the update? sorry for being a noob.
-
There is no IDE option in the bios. Just leave it as it is, reboot and update the firmware.
-
Ha! ok thanks!

Report back once done.
I'm getting ready for work.
Good luck. -

i have this problem too with my m17x r1, with no ssd. i just have a 320gp hard drive. could this still be my problem?
-
Just an update, not sure if its connected but since i upgraded the firmware, i just got my fastest boot time, 24 secs.
-
The firmware update is for the SSD. Run bootracer, works a little differerent then bootimer.
Dunno what could be wrong with your R1. Could it be a bad drive?? What brand/type is it? -
it's an M17x R1, with Q9000 quad core, gtx 260m, 8gb ddr3 ram (just replaced but doesn't make a difference in the freezing) not sure what kida of hard drive. how can i figure that out? i have clean installed several times, and so has dell support people. i have had motherboard replaced too, still does it. just did it a min ago, when it finally unfroze, i heard to hard drive and the disk drive turn on and start spinning.

You can check your Har drive in device manager.
Mycomputer/system properties/ device manger. -
There is a sticker on the HDD. What does that say?
Windows freezing after a fresh install.
