Wired connection much faster than wireless?

Hello. I recently got a new internet connection of 50 Mb/s. When I connect my M17X R4 to the Netgear wireless router, I get speeds of 55 Mb/s download and 11 Mb/s upload. However, when I remove the wire and go wireless, the speed drops dramatically to 34 Mb/s download and less than 10 Mb/s upload. I'm using the Bigfoot Killer-N wireless card, Windows 7 professional, and a Netgear wireless router that broadcasts a 5 ghz network with speed capabilities of up to 600 Mb/s, dual band.

Any ideas how I can increase my wireless speed? 21 Mb/s difference seems like way too much of a drop. I'm hoping I can tweak some settings and get better performance. Any ideas?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Make sure you are using a 40MHz channel width instead of the normal 20MHz. Some wifi cards don't always go with the wider channel by default. You would have to set it in the wifi card's device properties in device manager (or at least that's where Intel's wifi card settings are).

The killer card doesn't play nice with certain routers. No clue why, but I think its a driver issue. :(

Have you turned off 'application control' in the killer manager? I had the same after an internet upgrade. It was fixed at my 'old' speeds and needed to be reset.

to be honest i see nothing unusual with your problem, do you really expect a wireless connection to give you the same speed as a wired connection?

wireless you need to consider inteference, thickness of walls, location

get yourself the wifi analyser app on iphone or android and check out your siganl strength also try inssider to test signal strength, it might be just a case of changing your channel on the route to a less populated one

But my wireless router is in the same room as my laptop. At the moment I'm sitting at the desk where the router is connected and my laptop is right next to it for testing, and the speed is still a 21 Mb/s difference. That just seems like a bit much to me.

Application control is disabled but I see no place to set it to a 40 mhz channel or even check what type of channel it is using.

    Any other ideas?

I think that might actually have to be set on the router itself and not the device manager.

The only options on the router are choosing which channel to connect to (channel 1, 2, 3, etc. Or in the case of the 5ghz network, random numbered channels), and then the choice of how fast you want it to be (I put it up to 300 Mb/s). And with the dual band it should be up to 600 Mb/s.

Is there Wireless N-1103 card able to get speeds of 55 Mb/s? I think it should so I'm not sure what the problem is here.
