Hey guys, does anyone know if one of the antenna in the 17 R1 is responsible for the Wireless N alone?
Basically my wireless speeds have dropped from 70-80mpbs on my 5GHZ N network to 20-24mbps and I can't for the life of me figure it out. I have swapped cards, I have done formats from 7 to 8.1 and back and have exhausted everything I can think of. Hard lined I get full internet speed but as soon as I go wireless it's like I am hitting a brick wall from where I was last week. My Note 4 is pulling 50+ mbps down so I don't think it is the router but I am at a loss for what could be causing it. I am going to try and find a friend of family member today with enough bandwidth that I can test on a different router but in the mean time I thought I would ask here.
I did do a full factory reset and even re-flashed the firmware on my router to no avail. I have not changed any settings in the router so I am at a complete loss for what could cause this. Is it possible to have a bad antenna?

Hey, I can't help with the antenna question but might have an idea.
I'd still be looking a a local problem after doing all that, of course your off-site test will clinch that one.
When you make a wireless connection to a router it stores information including the MAC address. This also speeds up DHCP and will usually keep your internal IP consistent. You can also apply rules and filters by MAC so that that device always follows the rules the admin has set.
I wonder if this is has got messed up somehow? It's a long shot but you can log into the router and delete any stored devices so they re-register. Just be careful while trying to find the setting. Also best to do this hardwired, nothing more frustrating than messing up your own wireless connection!
Wait and see if it still does it at your friends is my advice right now.

Thanks for the advice Micky
I will attempt that this afternoon and see what comes up. I am also going to pick up a new router at Costco because why not...if it does not fix it I will just take it back since I will be up there anyway. Wouldn't any rules in the router be wiped in a factory reset though?
I just can't see this being the laptop , but then why does my phone get a higher connection :S , it just makes no sense. -

Major system outage and our smartest engineer was in the server room working on it. Data centre manager is standing outside looking in through the glass panel. Suddenly the engineer lifts his hands from the keyboard and starts jigging backwards and forwards! Data center manager rushes to the door to ask what the hell he is doing? Reply? 'It's my server dance. It's about as much F'ing use as you standing there watching me - pi** off and let me work!' There's ex-army for you.

In regards to the antenna cables they are all the same. None of the cables is responsible for handling exclusively wireless N. I swapped my Killer wireless N 1103 (N card) for Intel AC 7260 (AC card) without the need to do anything with the cables. To rule the cables out, you could swap the main for aux (or if you have 3 cables, try different configurations). If the cable is not physically damaged, in most cases wireless issues are caused by the drivers/software/OS settings or less commonly wireless card itself or the router.
Since you already tried OS re-install+I assume tried different driver versions, it has to be the hardware issue... Did you swap the wifi card for a different and still have the same issue with both cards?MogRules likes this. -

Whelp....problem solved! It was the router! I figured it had to be just because of the symptoms but sure enough I got the new router ( Dlink 880L ) up and running and wham 122.5 mbps down instead of 24 mbps
Thanks for your help and suggestions!mariussx and MickyD1234 like this. -
You should be thanking me MogRules; It only works because I did my 'Router Dance'
Glad you (I) got it sorted there!Papusan, MogRules and MickyD1234 like this. -
