    Every1 with an R2 go dl 11.5b!

WItcher 2 Runs AMAZING on my M17x R2 with XF.

I thought the Graphics were garbage before, but now I just restarted the entire game because of how huge the difference is!

The textures are now perfect! No more low re textures!

BTW: Any1 else think Normal is hard :p

Ya the new drivers are great but now there's another problem, the lights now show through the walls. Not sure if u are having this problem, but in areas where there are light fixtures, there are light halos through the walls everywhere, very annoying. I know nvidia folks with sli had this problem, bummer now ati with crossfire. Hopefully the new cap's will fix this. Just wondering if anyone else is having this problem. Have 5870 crossfire btw.

Would you happen to know what's the best Video driver for Witcher 2 (M17x R3, 6970) at present?

Maedhros, did you apply the 1.1 patch as well? There were some serious changed in terms of game's performance (up to +30% gain possible).

I am using 11.5b and 1.1. I have my settings on Ultra but the ubershading or whatever it is off. I think the graphics are insane, and I am having no lag and no light halo effects. I think the 1.1 helped fix that. I am still waiting for the CAPS to come out that will help Xfire performance, but I am not really seeing anything bad now.

I’ve posted this under ‘driver updates’ but thought would try here too: Would updating to the M18x Video driver (6970m) for my M17x R3 improve gaming (Witcher 2 specifically) or is there a better and relatively stable Video driver for this particular game at present? Thanks a lot.

What settings are u running the game on?

I use the most recent m17x driver updates for the 6970m and run it overclocked 825/1015 on 900p, ultra settings, shadows on high, AA enabled, ubersampling and ssao disabled. Vsync enabled. Get 45-60fps.

    Game looks amazing!

Yea I know but I get that tearing effect in alot of games so I usually enable it all the time. It makes the game alot smoother. Thanks for the advice though...I might disable it again to see how it looks.

    Thanks JoeyFUZZ911 for the info

Ultra settings and all that jazz here too, not sure about FPS but all is running really great. I was asking about the best driver to enhance, if possible, gaming experience even further (to enjoy the M17x's graphical capabilities when they still last).

Anyone have an idea of how well the 6870 overclocked will handle witcher 2? Afraid to buy it untill I know for sure.

I overclock mine at 825/1015 while stock is 680/900 and it handles it pretty good. my settigns are 900p, ultra settings, AA and vsync enabled, ssao ubersambling disabled and get 45-60fps.
I had it at 1080p but framerate dropped to 30-50fps which is still good but was too choppy at times for me.

Overclocking will be fine with it. I only overclock Witcher 2 so I dont over use/abuse my GPU. Game looks and runs great! Go for it!

Oh nevermind.....I overlooked your GPU and sat 6*** and thought 6970 not realizing you put 6870. Should do fine. Wont be able to max out as much but will still look good. sorry for the misread.

I know I am going to sound like a broken record here but, You should try it again at 1080P with no vsync. If you dip below 60 FPS constantly Vsync should not be enabled as it will degrade performance. You should really only turn it on if you get tearing and are constantly above 60FPS.

I tried it last night and it wasnt for me. Honestly you cant see a big difference from 900p - 1080p.

On 1080p, it was stuttering here and there and framerate goes up and down alot and with vsync off I got a good amount of tearing and I hate that.

On 900p, with vsync on it ran smooth and framerate stayed high and constant and honestly with the smooth framerate and no stuttering I think it looks better on 900p, plus it doesnt overwork the OCed GPU.

Try my settings for 900p and tell me what you think.

Unless your monitor has a native 900p mode you're either going to get pixel interpolation via Nvidia's display scaling or 180 pixels worth of banding in the upper and lower sections of the screen without scaling.

Better running in native if you can, but I guess if it's choppy then you've gotta make some sacrifices.

I dont understand alot of what you said but I find the 900p to look great because it runs smoother and most to all frames are being reproduced so when moving around it looks better.

Dont get me wrong, I would love to keep it on 1080p and alot of games I play I have on 1080p, but for this game specifically and for how I like to play it, I think its better at 900p with a smoother framerate than 1080p with stuttering here and there.

Its all personal preference when it comes down to settings and how it runs. Some over look alot of what I dont. I have a high level of attention to detail.

1080p get 30-40fps which is fine for gameplay. I prefer 50-60fps which I get on 900p. If I could lower the refresh rate of my monitor to 40hz like I can in Red Facton Guerilla then the game would run alot smoother on 1080p, but the refresh rate of the screen causes the stuttering. GPU is fine for the most part.

Dont worry too much.....you should be fine. Run yours at 900p or 720p and and high settings and you hsould be fine. Disable ubersampling and SSAO. Run FRAPS with AA enabled and see what you get. If you get stuttering or low framerate then turn off AA. Alot of peeps turn off AA in games but it gets rid of jagged textures, so I always enable it. Its all personal preference and how attentive you are to detail.

Go out and get it!! The game is getting addictive!

11.5 CAP4 are out. on the release note doesn't state anything about the witcher 2 but actually they fix the light bleeding issue found with 11.5b hotfix.

The side effect of CAP4 unfortunatly is that after installation you wont be able to interact with any NPC on the game....

standing ovation for AMD catalyst crew.......

I noticed in Patch 1.2 there are more graphics options. Does anyone have a good tweak for the new options? I have 2x5870s in Xfire with 11.5b and 11.5 Caps 2 and I had no issues with the graphics before, but now I am not sure how to tweak it. Any help or advice is appreciated....and yeah the game is addicting, especially now that I can remap my keys to my Razer Naga number pad.

Vignetting - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Vignetting is often an unintended and undesired effect caused by camera settings or lens limitations. However, it is sometimes purposely introduced for creative effect, such as to draw attention to the center of the frame. A photographer may deliberately choose a lens which is known to produce vignetting to obtain the effect, or it may be introduced with the use of special filters or post-processing procedures.

Still confused on what it will do in a game like witcher 2? I know the one thing I don't like that I can't get rid of is bright lighting. I was just in the caves looking for that special sword and the light was like someone shining it in my face. It does it here and there throughout the game.

    Hi Joey,

It's just an aesthetic option of camera darkening effect. Basically with this option turn on you'll see a darker image/border around the edge of your screen. This option doesn't affect performance, however I'd prefer to turn it off if you're asking me.

As for the issue you're having, it's the lighting issue which been plaguing TW2 since AMD hotfix. Light source (ie: sun) will go through solid objects like cave, wall, etc. You saw those giant light spheres, yes? :p

AFAIK there's no fix yet for this issue, not even with the latest patch/hotfix from either devs or card's mfr. Guess we need to be patience for the next patch/hotfix. :(

Ok thanks! It's not that bad except for when I was in the cave. I had the Cat potion for night vision and it made that light super bright. Dont know if you ever worn NVG's (Night Vision Goggles) but it was like having them on and then looking at a light. It was annoying. Still love the game though...extremely addicting!

Yeah I am loving the game, I have just been trying to figure out what each of the new options does and how to tweak them. I haven't really experienced the light issue as of yet, but I haven't gotten to the cave you mentioned. I really haven't seen bad performance with everything enabled, but I am sure on a screen with alot going on it might lag a bit.

Yea i did that for alittle while with tweaking but I found what worked for me after using FRAPS for FPS and now I just enjoy the game.

I dont run mine on 1080p.

My settings are 900p, ultra eerything, and SSAO and Ubersampling disabled. AA enabled. I overclock 815/1150 and get 50-60fps.

I didnt notice a big difference between 1090p and 900p other than objects close up and charcter models were slightly sharper (not much) and everything was more shiny but FPS was averaging 30-40. It was too choppy for me.
Some people play at 1080p and turn AA off and that will give you the frame rate Im at but I can tell a big difference with AA off. Edges of character, buildings and textures are jagged. AA smoothes them out but uses more GPU.

I found the key to gaming on an Alienware rather than Xbox360 is to find the grapchi settings you like and stick with them. Xbox 360 already has it set so its never a problem. seeing it look really good but game play stutters or is choppy or lower graphic settings and smooth gameplay is all up to the gamer. I like the balance.

Cant wait for Skyrim...awesome graphics for high end PC's and 300+ hrs gameplay!!! Pretty Stoked!!
