Seems like my problems never ends!!!!!!! Now ive notice that laptop screen touches Keyboard while closin lid. As whenever ive close lid and open ive finds oil marks its like shine over screen. its really annoyin as every time ive need to clean panel, additionally this thing might damage screen isnt it :(

Does it normal with M17x R3 or might while it occur while engineer fixin LCD panel, as he did open keyboard twice???

We have three M17x R3 systems and none have the finger grease streaks you mention. I also have an XPS 1645 that does, so I know exactly what you are describing.

It's something I've heard happen a lot, and for some reason, most people seem to think it's ok. Personally, if I were spending $2,000 on a laptop, I'd think the engineers designing it could at least fix something this basic. Maybe that's asking too much.

I had the same issue and I opened the keyboard from the screws, bended little in the middle and fixed it back. Now no more marks on the screen.

I do not recommend in doing that, as I do not know how gentle you will be while 'bending' the keyboard and you may damage it...

Alright did talk with dell, and guy said to be to send engineer....but wait this is my new system and i would not like to keep everyone openin my baby... :)
ive did ask them for replacement :DDDD They said they gona let me know if its possible or not :S

I have the same issue. The grease is from your fingers. You leave oil, sweat and other crap all over your keyboard, Then when you close the laptop lid, it touches your keyboard which transfers the dirt to the lcd screen.

When it does happen, i just wipe it clean with a cloth specifically made to clean lcd screens.

What a waste of time... Change your laptop? And do what? You may face some other issues with a new system. Atleast with this one you know you have only the screen / keyboard problem, which is a piece of cake if you know how you can fix it... It took me maybe 5 minutes max to have this issue fixed. I have only done it about a week back and from that time no more marks on the screen...

@juliant: ive got one question for you if you dont mind, As your usin K. Hyperx which is usually 1866 CL11, i was thinkin to get some of these then ive found Corsair Vengeance which is CL10 so so as per my knowledge CL10 is better isnt it?

Corsair CL10 ones seem better definitely. I know at least one user running them no problems. I would recommend against the HyperX PnP ones, they seem to cause crashes and BSODs for many people.

Yah i was thinkin same way,
Finally confused within below two types,

    1) 8GB (2x4GB) Corsair Vengeance Performance DDR3 SO-DIMM PC3-12800 (1600), 204 Pin, Non-ECC Unbuffered, CAS 9-9-9-24, 1.5V

    2) 8GB (2x4GB) Corsair Vengeance Performance DDR3 SO-DIMM PC3-14900 (1866), 204 Pin, Unbuffered, CAS 10-10-10-27, 1.5V

So so which would be better :SS

Whichever is cheaper. RAM frequencies/timings don't actually impact performance.

Obviously 1600 will be cheaper, almost at half price of 1866.
Yeah agreed performance will almost same within both of it, but the main thing is stability with R3.

Alright just noticed another issue, Its related to Audio.
I have Turtle Beach Call of duty MW3 (Z6A) headset, ive notice some static noise poppin out of headsets, after stopin any music for about 20 to 30Sec then suddenly stops. Even it starts again whenever ive click any folders usually double click to open folder (as whenever it detect any sound) again it stays next about 30 Sec then stops. ive used same headset with my phone, havnt got any noise in it. so its seems like havin only with laptop jack.

Update :DD Engineer came to my house changed keyboard, previous engineer did forgot to place all cables perfectly and this guy did it. But still still keys from S to K touchin LCD screen :((( i dont know wht to do tech guy sayin me tht its normal and said to dell tht everythin is fine. ive said to him this is not normal then he goes speak with dell. Do ive ask for replacement of whole system?

i think all people with m17x R3's have the keyboard touching issue whether they realize it or not. Replacing the laptop with another R3 will only get you another one that behaves exactly the same.

yes i do understand mate,as ive think all problem started from replacin LCD panel. yah may be new system will have their own problems. Actually im happy with except this issue, keyboard may damage screen on later days and tht time dell wont listen me at all.
Actually im thinkin to get extra rubber feet for screen, but then ive realize tht if we place additionally rubber feet then it can create stress on joint where actually its fit with screws. :(

you could buy some carbon fiber and do something similar to what I did to mine. Not only does it keep the screen away from the keyboard, but it also protects the palmrest from wear and tear. ;)

Awww its looks kool :D where did you got these from? ive checked alienware accessories never got any think like this one mate.
Any here its sounds like different problem. Now ive checked everythin n found that last engineer didnt fix my lcd screen properly, even its not properly fixed with back cover and even not on base where they throws screw. So when ive close it, its starts squeezin from Alienware logo to keyboard. Even side rubber line feet not touchin palm rest.
So so engineer did mess with my brand new system, ive just call dell to replace whole system. And they said he gona talk with his manager and will let me know :S

Does that extra material on the palm rest touch the screen though and perhaps scratch it eventually?

it is how the R3 behaves. We all have the keyboard touching. Replacing it will only get you another one that will have the keyboard touching again.

    @GTX580OC
If your R3 is behaving well...meaning its stable and the 580m is tolerable (meaning throttling isn't there or is manageable), why risk getting another machine that isn't stable or where the 580 throttling isn't manageable?

Not sure how replacements go, but those of us that are awaiting our new orders have been experiencing delays on our systems. Currently we're being told to expect our orders by the end of next week. If your replacement falls behind current orders, then you might be waiting 2-4 weeks for it. If your replacement gets put ahead of ours, then you're not going to be making many friends here.

When your new system gets to you and still has the keyboard issue, what will you do then? As stated previously, this is an issue with all m17x r3s. Just use a small microfiber cloth on the keyboard every time you close the lid. That's what I'll be doing. Hopefully you won't run into worse problems with the new system.

@Slickdude: I do agree with you :D ive played many games so far, with their maximum settins and never faced throttlin problem with it. Even i did first thought about throttle problem before orderin it with GTX580 but letter dell had changed heat sink so the problem hardly encounter with it (usually when over clockin).
@ The main thing for replacement is that system has been damaged by engineer by mistake after repairin many times, first back cover clips has been damaged its not fix properly, even LCD screen is not placed properly. So whenever ive shut lid, top end never rest on plam as it has to be. back cover plastic clips were damaged cosz of first engineer :( Even he didnt assemble system as it was, specially wirin. After all of it im not deserve to treat like tht way, as it was just a month old.
As most of sayin tht M17x R3 screen do touch keyboard, but ive never seen any mark on screen before LCD been replaced, its happenin afterwards. On this matter ive did little argue with one of Dell mate, first he goes M17x's screen do touches keyboard, its normal and one need to put cloth between it. Its drive me crazy, then ive goes why dell didnt highlighted with " *Beware this system requires separate cloth to put between keyboard and LCD, which is not provided by Dell". Additionally ive said then does sellin un-shaped design, lolzzzzz Then he goes wait wait could ive please hold on line, ive need to talk with my superior on it. After their superior did take errand on my mail and pictures ive sent to them about damage of system and they agreed to replacement. I DONT LIKE NOR WILLIN TO CRITICIZE. Actual thing is lack of knowledge towards system, Even if you ask them about throttle only few knows wht does it stand for.

so guys back to topic :DD Thts main reason for replacement otherwise im with my baby :)

@skyline: lolzz i dont mind mate if it do take long cosz i can use this system till new system arrives.

Also they asked, about to upgrade to new system, do you guys prefer anythin to upgrade. actually im not fan of AMD so didnt chose HD6990. Additionally not seein any advantage of SSD as no performance improve over games except fast loadin speed.

** Additionally there is an option for M18X, but problem is Dell has removed dual GTX580 in UK.

Alright guys seems like problems never leave me alone, Today i was just first time usin Furmark 1.9.2 and ive noticed that core clock keep changin by it self at from Temp. 54C (even also start whenever ive start application). its keep changin by it self from core 475 mhz to 620 Mhz and back. whts wrong with it:S sometime its only stays at 475 mhz never goes to 620.

    Today update***

got call from Dell, that i will not get GTX 580m with replacement system, so ive asked they i can wait for it. Ah then some New came out from caller that might GTX 580m Will not available any more with Alienware systems :(
