I have the Asus vg278h 3dV2 lightboost monitor which is simply amazing in 3d... I wanted to get 3dv2 for my laptop screen as well. Wondering if this is a possible upgrade?

Well the first R4s have just started being delivered. The large majority of people here do not have an R4 yet

I would go to alienware's website and check the details of its 120hz 3D screen. Or call one the the Alienware services folks.

I'm not sure if it actually is a lightboost display because I didn't see any advertisements or any statements actually saying its 3DV2 on the dell/alienware website...

The new Toshiba gaming laptop advertises that its 3dv2 lightboost... where alienware its no where to be found on the website.

maybe some R4 owner with 3D can take a look which display-panel is used.
if its an LG model produced in 2011, it probably does not have lightboost.

i don't mind giving a hand. I've got the r4 with 3D V2 glasses but i'm not sure if the display panel used is the same with the old r3. Mind telling me how to check?

Right, open up My Computer, and click on System Properties, on the left, there will be Device Manager, go to Monitors, drop it down and double click on what comes up. A new window should appear, go to the Details tab, change the drop down to the second thing which is Hardware IDs, post the details here :)

Thanks wide... hope to get an answer to this question.

lightboost makes a huge difference in 3d quality, decreased crosstalk and brightness. The difference in night 'n' day.

It is very difficult. Unless you can find a preassembled R4 display assembly that includes the bezel etc all fitted, then it is virtually impossible.

Yes, I just got my R4 replacement yesterday. First impressions, much brighter/clearer in 3D, but a bit darker otherwise (had to up the gamma in a couple of games that I did not on the R3).

    1. Darker in normal use. I have the screen up full and it's only just acceptable, I'd like to be able to go up one more. The R3 was way too bright on full for anything but direct sunlight.

In games it depends on the settings (not in 3d Vision), when cranked up to the max the screen is noticeably darker.

    2. 3d Vision 2 is way brighter though. I can also see the KB better.

    3. No Optimus :D . With the 120 hz screen the iGpu is not even wired in - downside, you cant upgrade to anything other than Nvidia.

    4. I is :D :D

Edit: Thanks to the Mod that combined my earlier posts as I should have done.

That seems logical, the old display did not have LightBoost and therefore used extra brightness to offset. The new display probably has the same brightness as the none 3D ones because it has other methods of brightnening up 3D.

That's what I thought. It's even noticeable on the BIOS load screen so nothing to do with windows. I think it's some sort of switching when 3D is active and nothing much to do with the glasses version - but of course I just returned the old ones so I can't verify...

Good luck, probably best ATM to see what the 680 comes out like.

As for no optimus, considering all the problems people are having with games I see it as an advantage - i hardly ever use it on battery anyway ;)
