IF someone has a 5870 crossfire configuration WORKING on a05, please can I get a copy of your SLAVE bios? I believe this can easily be gotten using GPU-Z.

I want to reflash my slave.

Do you mean the black screen as in black screen upon powering up or at the logon screen stage?

Did you update your BIOS before installing the new cards? Are these the cards from Dell? Do you have your cards seated properly? Is your crossfire cable connected correctly? Do you have a 240W Power supply?

Bios was already updated to A05 when i got the system. The cards are from Dell. The cards were seated properly, and as far as power supply. It's the m17x laptop, which should run the video cards. System is about a month old.

This is because the system bios is having an issue with the cards. Try one at a time in the primary slot to verify they do work. Leave the secondary slot (Adapter 1 on the right side) empty.

The tech they sent out did try just the primary and still had just a black screen. They sent me a new motherboard, lcd, and ram. Wondering if i should try the motherboard with the cards. Thinking... it aint the lcd or ram because my 4870s work perfect!!! and i'm running 10.6 ati drivers. Installing them took a little thinking. So i extracted the Dell and ATI drivers seperately. I opened up the files n went through to see what's the same and whats not. Basically found the foulder where the heart of the driver was. Took that folder from ATI and put it into the Dell extrated folder... Cash in. Forget what the files are, but if your willing to look, you can find them.

CelestialSin let me know of your results because i plan to do the same. Dell has to give an answer about this. if they did something to machines with dual 4870s so as not to accept 5870s they should just let us know before pay for 5870s. and its only two weeks since i got my machine. it also has the A05 bios on it.

I'd love to know the answer to this issue also. It doesn't make sense at all and it affects all systems, not just systems with 4870s. The system I just returned came with 5870s.

yes but systems coming with CF 5870 are supposed to be working-tested while if you install 5870s on a system with 4870s you dont know.

Great, now dell canceled my order on the new cards they're suppose to ship out to me. They're trying to hold back from upgrading me stating that my original came with 4870s... but they already sent a set of 5870s to me. I honestly dont think the videocards are dead, b/c i get an alienhead picture with hdmi external monitor plugged in. It's gotta be something with the bios. Waitin till i hear from tech that "hooked" me up on the cards. He should be able to send new ones within a few days. I'm gonna try just the cards first on my original Motherboard if not i'm gonna try the 5870's with the new motherboard. Thinking maybe using the 4870 drivers did something to the motherboard that makes it act funny with the 5870 if your upgrading. People say its Bios A05... but if they're building new systems with dual 5870s. Then the bios will be A05. So hence it must work with A05.

Update: got new cards yesterday. Primary worked, crossfire FAILED. Tried to flash to A02, got some kind of error. Said F*** this Sheit and told the tech to call dell. They're gonna send me ANOTHER laptop. So my 3rd (2nd replacement) I go to check the status with my order #. These dummies put 4870 and dell wireless 5910 card... sigh. They know i have the new intel 6300 and i should have 5870s. Yet they STILL put 4870s on the new configuration. I just sent an email to tell them i wanted it changed and to see the "RESULTS" on my order status. I'm betting I get my new laptop 3 weeks from now with 4870s... bad thing is I called today and the guy was like "we are for sure that the system is coming with 5870s." I know BS when I hear BS. Point blank he had me on hold forever (i hung up and he called back... that's a first) and put me back on hold. Anywayz I believe the "ORDER STATUS" any any any any day over a REP. I should just bend over and hand Dell the Lube now.

Sigh, I'm venting.... $5k and 3 laptops later. They should just give me SSD's and my 30 inch i ordered on the 10th... I wont even see it till like July 25th. Gonna tell them that if they dont get my order right on this laptop i'm gonna be forced to cancel my monitor ($1700 after tax, but my dude will give me 10% off later) and never do business again with them. Ever... I'm so pissed I could buy a mac. Nuff Said

Btw if anyone can tell me where to get bios A02 and how to FOR SURE, FOR SURE, FOR SURE install it without any problems I would appreciate it. My 4870's XF work PERFECTLY with the new 10.6 drivers. I'm sure if i can get my system to just BOOT with 5870s in xf it's game over. I'll have those cards ROCKIN. (BTW i still got a pair they sent me HAHA) I dont even care bout the new system if i can get these installed.

    again A02 doesnt support 587s.

is there just one who bought two 5870s in CF and replaced his 4870s and they worked without issues?

I know I've said this before but the 4870s is the better bet because of the poor Dell 5870 drivers. Until that get's resolved simply getting them to work won't be enough.

not to argue or even debate, but i've heard that joker and another m17xr-2 or something like that were using A02 with no problems for their 5870 xf setup. So like i've said I heard that A02 does work, but havent been able to go back to A02 successfully.

http://forum.notebookreview.com/alienware-m17x/490277-m17x-r2-cf5870-wont-boot-3.html and i cant remember where i saw Joker's but I saw him saying he was using A02 with them.

Again if you are correct more power to you and the fact that is. But Ive read some people are using them with A02. If i find anything new i will post back though. Please do the same. If anyone wants to test this for us with converting back to A02 please hit us with the Facts. Thanks

Metro 2033 looked horrible with DX11, much worse than the G73. I saw micro-stuttering with MLB 2K10...I don't think I played any other games with it.

it may be due to the game itself? so its like saying even if you have 5870s you prefer to play on dx10.1 ?

Metro 2033 is the only DX11 game I have and I prefer to play it with DX10. It was slow with the G73 and looked slow/crappy with the M17xR2. Regarding MLB 2K10 it plays with no issues with my M15x or the G73. Not exactly a fast moving, graphic intense game.

perfect as i am waiting for my CF 5870s.

this actually means we have to downgrade to A02 before installing the 5870S CF?

the question still remains how they work with A05 Bios on default 5870 CF machines.do you dare to update to A05 now?
