Hello guys and welcome to this thread. As the title says, this thread has been made for the discussion of the WoW Expansion: Cataclysm that has brought with it new effects and terrain. Here you can post any issues you may be having with WoW or anything else you can think of. I'll start us off.

I noticed that when I got into the game that the Shadow Engine had been fixed and I could max out Shadows without any FPS hit. However, I did notice a rather large amount of stutter whenever I turned. This also elad to two BSODs in a row relating to memory. I turned my view distance down to Low and haven't had a BSOD since then and its really smoothed my game out to what it should play at. Full graphic details but with minimal rendering distance, paired with default CCC settings.

How is everyone else's performance in WoW? I can only seem to get it to run well with View distance at the lowest. In WOTLK it was shadows that killed my performance and yet this stuttering does not seem to occur as harshly on my desktop with a 9600GT. :[ God bless nVidia.

Just played a two hour session and so far so good. All settings are either High or Ultra with no BSODs or slow downs of any kind. FPS stays steady at around 60 or so, I'll provide more specific details next time I log on.

Just found and noticed that if my View Distance is anything higher than Low, than I get horrible stutter at ALL levels of detail. :( What drivers are you running?

On mine I get flickering on the shadows if they're set to the level just below ultra. If they're set at ultra, the shadows then look fine, but the FPS takes a huge hit in certain areas such as Grizzly Hills - unplayable levels.

I've also noticed that with high graphics, a lot of my screenshots come out as completely blank images.

Same same :/ Guys try this if you want. I think it fixed my stuttering.

Right click your shortcut and then copy and paste this in the target:

    -d3d11

Then it should look like, for me that is:

    "E:\World of Warcraft\Launcher.exe" -d3d11

This'll put WoW into experimental DX11 mode.

    Hey guys,

Just logged back on, my settings are as follows:

    Texture Resolution High
    Texture Filtering 4X
    Projected Textures Enabled
    Shadow Quality High
    Liquid Detail Ultra
    Sunshafts High
    Particle Density High

    View Distance High
    Enviornment Detail High
    Ground Clutter High

I haven't attempted to bump all the HIGHS to ULTRA yet (although I plan to do that and see what happens)

Running 10.11 drivers with the latest profiles installed.

No lag, no Bsods so not sure what other differences there might be (except the video cards, as it looks like we're all on different cards/chipsets).

Hope this helps, if there is anything you want me to try just let me know. :)

Make sure you disable crossfire or run in windowed mode (which will make it use only one card) it will run much much better (2-3x faster from all my benchmarking)

Lagging only in heavily crowded areas but all else is 50-60fps...

I am running the 10.11 drivers and set at High settings, getting 60+ FPS most areas. Would try Ultra but getting internet thru my Evo right now. Expect would do better at home.

Sounds like they need to do the Trick Lord of the rings did. They have Dynamic layering like Small Server in a Server. So you see Less people in one Area Which equal less lag.

Where it was before Areas where there was 50+ People or more your computer would shutter or Lag even if it was High end.

If anyone want to try lotro and want help just enter Meneldor after passing the frist 7 Levels. Just go to the Mail box and send a Message to Atol.

The game runs great at ultra with d3d11 shortcut addition :)

The d3d11 shortcut activates BETA DX11 mode which most of the time results in increased performance and memory management for DX11 cards.

This suffers from the Alt-Tab bug tho.

I have tried almost everything with wow and I always go back to the 10.5a Hotfix drivers with 10.5 cap and with vertical sync on I get 60fps everywhere except the "new" Stormwind when its straight packed.

Well I noticed that with the 10.3 drivers my performance in WoW takes a pretty noticeable hit (down to around 30 fps). So the newer drivers definitely seem to make a difference. I downgraded my drivers for an unrelated test (Civ 5), but thought I'd report my findings here.

Unfortunately my cards are only Direct X 10.1...so can't do the DX11 trick :(

I will say that even at 30fps things look great and I'm sure I could lower my settings to improve this, but hope to upgrade my video drivers back up once we sort out the Civ 5 issues.

I just reinstalled the game yesterday, and it's crashing pretty frequently for me. I don't have Cataclysm installed yet. 10.11 drivers, no CAP (that I'm aware of). I forced DX9 and noticed a pretty massive jump in FPS in Northrend. I must say, when it's working, the game is much more visually appealing than it used to be. Been having some BSOD and CTD problems. I ran every diagnostic I could think of with no errors in any of them. Blah, blah, blah. Seems like all the new PC games are broken in some form or fashion right now.

I had BSODs also until I added d3d11 to my shortcut

Right click your shortcut icon and in the target box add:

    -d3d11

And there was also another change that stopped crashes. You should check the wow tech forum.

I've added that to my shortcut, but I don't have Cataclysm installed. Isn't that where the DX11 content comes from? I'm still on the WotLK expansion.

I had several crashes with 10.11 as well which brought me back to the 10.5a hotfix which seems gravy for everything. I also am running Xfired 4870's.

I have yet to try forcing DX9 as I did not even know that was an option :)

I am experiencing computer-lock-up every time I play Cata. Sometimes within minutes other times in a few hours. I have to hard boot every time. My computer does not lock up otherwise (when not playing WoW). This did not happen before Cata.

I have the most current drivers for my R1 video drivers. Check out my signature for the specs. Perhaps it could be another driver issue not related to the Vid drivers, perhaps the Chipset drivers for example. What do you think?

@Turbod - No when the 4.0.3 went live the DX11 changes were made.

    People who are crashing -

    Add this to your config/:

    SET FixedFunction ''1''

    I think it's that.

It worries me that most of you with similar or the same M17x R2 setups as I have can run the game with 50-60 or 60fps all the time on high or ultra when I cant even hit 60 on the recommended settings(which are halfway between good and high)...

Maybe its because I haven't had Crossfire enabled because until 10.11 CCC wouldn't install/work for me?
(Completely off topic, but related to enabled or not enabling crossfire when I play Cata, what happens if I enable crossfire and I have 2 monitors? Does one get disabled or do I have to manually disconnect it?)

And in case anyone wants to play in game my most played char name is Dezran on Sentinels.(No I don't RP)

    Hi folks

Just installed 10.12 on my system and it looks to be pretty stable from a WoW perspective. Hitting consistent 60fps and so far no crashes... This is with crossfire enabled.

I'll be the first to admit that I haven't played long, but can say that 10.11 and 10.12 easily double the FPS that 10.3 provides. So if anyone is running 10.3 I'd highly recommend upgrading for WoW.

Hi Flynn...odd..it was there earlier (and installed fine, even says it's the mobility version). However I have noticed that their website has been having issues, so it's possible they pulled it, or moved it. Not sure what's going on, but catalyst shows I'm at 10.12 as does the video card driver.

Yeah that one is the desktop version, and doesn't install properly..the link I posted was the mobility version, but now when I try to go out there I keep getting a notification that the website is down. Maybe they had to pull it for some reason or another.

With every setting completely maxed out, in Northrend, I get 25-30 fps. Running maxed out in the beginning areas of the game is not a problem. The graphics got more hungry with each expansion I've noticed. Here's how I run 60fps:

    Everything on Ultra, but...

    AA on 4x.
    Water on GOOD.
    Shadows on GOOD.

I have noticed that even when no water is in the vicinity it kicks the fps in the nuts when set to ultra. If you can't live with GOOD water, then you will need to kill the AA and shadows to their lowest settings. This is my computer, so this may not work or be necessary for you guys.

Yes to both. I get the same exact results running CF or not, so the game clearly does not utilize it. Or I'm an idiot. One of the two.

WoW doesn't offically support it but for some set ups it will work like mine :) I can tell because:

    1. FPS is lower without it

If i play with x-fire disabled, the game is smooth, i can crank up to high/good/Ultra the different settings, and the game is really enjoyable.

    With x-fire enabled, i get a "stupid" 30ish fps.....

One thing that i noticed is that there is some flickering.

nothing major, i can see it at the log in menu mostly and is kind of a light flickering (where deathwing stands over the entrance of stormwind) but not really that much in game, only if i stare straight with the purpose of actually seeing it.

I gave 10.12's a try yesterday and they run identical to 10.5a so I am going to be sticking with them for a while.

Side note I always play with crossfire enabled have never tried it without.
