Alright, so I know that there is a refresh for the M17x not too far off, but I am presented with a rare opportunity right at this moment.

Basically, I can order a fully loaded M17x in about two weeks and have the expenses of it taken care of, or I can wait until the next refresh and spend whatever I can afford (probably like $2000).

So, is it worth it to just get a fully loaded M17x now or wait for the R3 and get a lower model?

Hi, well in my eyes if a full loaded M17x (R2?) would be a god option as the R3 prices will rocket, as long as you can get extended warrenty in case something goes wrong then you might be lucky with an R3 replacement if parts no longer sourced.
    What spec is the M17x?

i would get the current model with extreme so you have unlocked multiplier. What are you trying to achieve from the newer model if you are going with a slower processor and the lower level video cards. You can unleash the BEAST by using Throttlestop and AMD GPU clock tools and overclock both the video card and processor and eat laptops and desktops for lunch, dinner and breakfast, including a lower end R3

    GO FOR IT!
I mean if someone else will pay for the current one, you can always sell it and use the money towards a R3 if it is that much better.

get it now, and get the extended warranty and then if something would happen you might get a R3 as a replacement.

I would go so far as to say most likely, if he maintains warranty.

If it is a free, fully-loaded R2, then add extended warranty and you're set. There will come a time when Dell will--as history's shown--just stop caring about the product and offer a replacement along the lines of the next big thing at the time. If you have an R2 with the best extreme CPU, your next system will have to have similar high-end dual-GPU spec with the best processor on offer.

It is almost like posting a question just to brag! :D

A fully loaded system will outclass any $2000 R3. Congrats!

Here's an idea for you. How about you get that Fully loaded R2, keep it intact and just sell it straight away without using it. A fully loaded R2 will cost more than 5000$, and if it's really fully loaded much more than that, so just sell it for 5000$ if it's worth more, which should be a good deal for the person you're selling it to, and you'll have 5 gran to buy an R3 or whatever laptop you want :D how about that?
