    hi
As above is it worth upgrading the M17X R2 standard dvd drive to the Sony BD-5850H blu ray burner .
Its about the only thing i haven't upgraded in this laptop .
Im reasonably confident of stripping it down for the swap as I've done Cpu and graphic cards in it so far . But is it worth the trouble or should i just buy an external blu ray burner .
Also would usb 2 be quick enough ? I do have the usb 3 card in the pci slot as well .
f external anyone got suggestions for which drive etc ?

    Thanks

First question that comes to mind is 'are you really going to use it?'.

If yes, that Sony will fit but you'll have to remove its front bezel.

USB 2.0 is fine for any bluray playback if you choose to take that route.

Katalin is right. I thought I would use my BD-ROM a lot more than I have; aside from a couple road trips where I have brought blu-ray movies along, I can't say that I have used it very much. At home, I already have a blu-ray player, and a screen much larger than my M17x's display. Watching a movie on it when I could be watching it on the home theater and then using the laptop at the same time is sort of counter-productive.

However, if the cost isn't very much, I say go ahead. It's always nice to have the option in your back pocket.

Blu-ray is failed technology. No, it's not worth it.

I was thinking more along the lines for burning blu ray discs . All nice and compact in the one box rather than having an external one .

Rather pointless post. This is a question that you, and only you, can answer.

Thanks for your words of wisdom and your pointless post ....

I would prefer internal so its all in one box as such rather than external drive with wires and plugs all over the place . Was hoping if anyone has used the Sony drive could say how it performs.

I had it and i can say that it's more quieter than the Panasonic from Dell in my M17x.
