    Hi All,
As we all seem to be finding out from rumors that the 900 series cards around the corner, is it worth the wait?? If the Maxwell cards do drop by sept end, how soon is Alienware known to adopt new cards?? I have a qoute ready from dell and was about to place an order when I suddenly heard this and now I'm in full stall mode as i've not heard anything great about the 880Ms. With their throttling and heat issues, it might be worth waiting for a month or two perhapss since this will be my first purchase of a gaming laptop. How quick do you think Alienware will have them in their systems??

It is def going to be worth the wait as I have seen some people stating there may be as much as a 50% improvement in the new GPU's but we really won't know for sure until someone gets one and we see the numbers. Honestly the 880m has had such a failure of a track record that I would steer clear on that alone.

I don't think your going to be waiting all that long, I would think within 60 days but honestly we won't know until they actually launch more then likely. Alienware is usually fast to adopt the new hardware BUT you won't be the only one rushing out to buy so you could run into the possibility of a delay due to hardware shortages :(

IMO wait, your to close to buy old tech now. If the rumours I am hearing are true, you won't be sorry.

W8 for maxwell...why...because it will be a huge improvement of 780m 880m...the i7 5960x 8 cores is allready out and ddr 4 ...so...everything that it will be new it will be much better then the old one.

I will agree with what most people said here. I was going to upgrade the GPU for 780m or 880m, but members of this forum and some additional research convinced to wait for maxwell. In your case it's not only the upgrade, but the whole premium for a brand new system. It is not worth to buy anything right now, since you will be able to get a much better system soon with a maxwell GPU or even buy the same system you are thinking of now, while paying a lot less. Current systems will be automatically discounted to push the stock out and clear the shelves for the maxwell systems. It's a win-win.

No, that's what I meant really. I am not upgrading my laptop. Will be waiting to buy a brand new laptop/desktop once next gen Intel CPUs, DDR4, m.2 (or similar) SSD and maxwell GPUs are out and enough people report on the performance/heat/battery life etc. I do not mind waiting until next summer if that means I would get all next gen stuff in one package :)

If you're planning to wait until next summer, you may as well wait until Pascal and Skylake launch.

For the love of god do NOT buy 880M. It is simply broken and nVidia either can't or doesn't want to fix it and is sweeping it under the rug hoping everyone will just forget about it. Maxwell is most definitely worth the wait.

The octo-core 5960X is a total dud, 10-15% improvement over a hex-core 4960X in most benchmarks, and even trailing behind in others. DDR4 may have higher speeds but latency is a complete joke, and as result perform worse than DDR3 while costing more. Intel's decision to push DDR4 on X99 was a huge mistake IMO.

I guess I'll wait then. I am really into buying a 120Hz 3d screen though. Dose that usually come out as fast with the new GPU or do they take time in getting 120Hz screens out for the new iterations??

If you can wait, then wait but keep in mind there will always be something new that is just around the corner and if you are waiting for that then you may just wait forever :). In the meantime those who choose not to wait will be enjoying their computers.

I think that the problems people are having with the 880M all stem from overclocking so if you are not planning on overclocking then the 880M is still a good high performance card.

We usually release those at the same time we release the standard versions.

Well even without OCing, there are problems.. The whole card is just broken.. bad bad idea to buy a 880M..

Whoops. I am I handing out bad advice? :(
If that is the case I apologise but I wasn't aware of problems with the 880M that was not initially caused by OCing and my experience with my 780M has been excellent.
