So I have been thinking about upgrading my processor in my m17x r2. I scoped out a deal with extreme processor on ebay for a i7 920xm for $325 and was thinking of getting it soon.

The other day, I said to my self, "Self...we could call up Dell/AW and see if they sell the processor and if they do, how much it would be. Hey, self, even if its twice as much, the Dell man can put it in for you and if he breaks something that becomes Dell's problem!!".

So I called up dell and got a helpful, if not a little slow, rep to look into the situation.

Now after about 25 minutes on hold, I finaillly said into my cell phone, "Hello? Are you still here?"

    Now for the funny part...

So he comes back on the line and says, "Yes sir I am here. The reason this is taking so long is I am seeing if I can get you a discount in any way, as it is a very expensive part."

So I say..well how much is the thing??

He says its $2,659 after installation. So I am like...um how much? "Yes sir, it is $2,659. The reason for the high cost is we have a dell technician install it for you and verify that all components are working correctly before leaving the site"

I was basically laughing histerically and told the tech that it was ok, he didnt need to look for a discount...no discount could exist that would convince me to actually buy the part from them now.

Oh my, the poor man actually had to tell me that a part costs $2659. Oh that just made my day.

Then I'm going to as about a discount because my budget is abour $300. When he says no I'll just tell him thanks, I'm going with the ES chip on EBay. :p

well you did waste 25 mins and got no where, i definitely wouldn't be laughing, i think he's messing with you and have no intention of selling the part and that's some sh*t service if you can put someone on hold for that long.

Had pretty much the same thing happen with me except for a hard drive. They were replacing an R1 for me that had the battery not charging issue. I called up and emailed wanting to know how much the system would be if I kept it. The email quoted 759$. I was happy and thought I was getting a deal. But when I called to complete the purchase, the tech told me it was just for the hard drive! $759 for a hard drive!!!! Crazy. So I find your story humorous, but true..........
