Im using unlocked a12 bios by svl7, When I go into memory override in the first advanced tab under overclocking enabled and set speed to 1600mhz, dimm XMP to profile 1 or 2, volts 1.5>F10 . It stalls at bios and restarts normally but it changes dimm XMP to deflaut, speed and voltage the same.

    1. does the m17x r3 3D (hm67 chipset)support XMP?
    2. I have 32GB of corsair CMSX8GX3M1A11600C10 and it running at 800mhz
    in HWINFO64. I have 4 8GB sticks.
3.the spd latency 9-9-9-24 and tested latency 10-10-10-27.
4.will the spd latency run on the ram but reduce the speed to the spd speed of the ram?
    5. I just kind speed the ram up for gaming by reducing the latency. Im fine with the ram running at 1600mhz i dont want to increase this!

    all informative responses appreciated! :)

XMP profiles do work on the M17xR3, that's how I managed to overclock my RAM, by editing the XMP profile & selecting XMP in the BIOS.

Your sticks are designed to run at 800Mhz, that's normal for 1600Mhz memory - the actual frequency is 800Mhz but because it's DDR (Double Data Rate) it can call itself 1600Mhz effective frequency.

Your sticks should run automatically at their fastest default speed and timings. XMP2 is the fastest profile version on the RAM sticks. The fastest that those sticks run at (at default) is 800Mhz and a CL latency of 10, which would fit with the 10-10-10-27 that you mentioned - so that's what you should see it running at without any tinkering.

If you want it to run faster by tightening the timings, then you could try and change some of the custom timings in the BIOS, but I could never get them to stick properly - it would end up setting the RAM to different latency values than I had set in the BIOS; I found this approach impossible after a few hours of messing around with it. I had to use Typhoon Burner to edit the XMP profiles, and then set it to XMP profile in the BIOS. (I briefly outlined the Typhoon Burner procedure for you some time ago, in another thread somewhere).

@ Robbo can i customize the timings with typhoon burner and just leave the ram at 1600mhz; I dont think the additional speed will make that much of a difference or will it for gaming. I will find that thread and review thanks.

With the 2720qm 1600mhz is the sweet spot.
