I have read several people have been having problems with the rubber coating peeling or wearing off on the M17x R3 and I am wondering if anyone has tried the Zagg invisible shield? They have one for the Area-51 M17x but not for any of the newer models. Would this one still fit the new M17x R3? Does anyone know of other companies with a similar product that is designed for the M17x R3? Thanks

Im actually putting it on righ tnow on the palmrest namely the left side. Its for a different machine but im cutting it to shape. I have no doubt in a few months the left palm area will wear through the rubber.

I put Ghost Armor on my Droid X, but took it off because it ruined the over all feel of the phone.

Also, I don't like glossy style laptops, one of the selling points for me.. though.. the pal rest idea may be okay...

What about the one that goes over the lid does it fit properly or do you have to cut it to shape? I am hoping they come out with a proper one for the R3 since it is a rubber coating and I would like to keep it in pristine condition if at all possible.

My lid came scratched (it's not that bad, but someone on NBR convinced me that it is :D). It appears to be glittery underneath the rubber or maybe the paint has glitter in it? Anywhoo, if you're worried about scratches and don't want a glossy shield thingy, maybe try CONTACT from homedepot. Got the idea from someone in the HP section of NBR, who used the faux-leather kind of CONTACT. I was planning to do it to mine eventually also, cuz it looks pretty cool. I went to homedepot a few weeks ago, and it's like $7-8 for a huge roll. It's actually made for lining the inside of kitchen cabinets/drawers lolz.

Well, looking on Zagg's website and under the faq I found this:

Will I need to cut the invisibleSHIELD to fit my device?

The invisibleSHIELD is precision-made for each specific device, so it does not need to be cut in order to assure a perfect fit. We have thousands of designs already available on our web site, with more added each day.

If you do encounter difficulties with the design or fit of the invisibleSHIELD, please contact our Customer Service Department and we will be happy to assist you.

*Please note that cutting or altering the invisibleSHIELD will void your Lifetime Replacement Guarantee, and you will not be eligible for future replacements.

I will have to wait until Monday to call them up because they are closed on weekends. I will see if they will be making one for the R3. I will post an update when I find out.

I've used Zagg products on several phones and they worked alright. They leave parts exposed though, which is understandable cause its not feasible to cover all the contours of a modern device using a sheet that's printed in 2D.

I can save you the time, they're not. Their corp headquarters is in Salt Lake City not far from me and I know a few people that work there so I checked with them shortly after I got mine(back in the beginning of February). Basically they aren't going to develop skins for many laptops other than the Apple laptops as they've been the only really profitable ones for them. They refuse to sell full sheets of it anymore, and refuse to cut one for me if I bring it to them. In short, an InvisiShield isn't gonna happen :(

Sorry I never responded but I never put the zagg on my r3. I need wax paper so I can outline the shape of the wrist pad area and I was too lazy to get some. Add to the fact that I've been entertaining selling it (probably won't) I just didn't get to it. The sheeting I have is actually precut for my old mbp 17 unibody. Interesting enough the trackpad is the exact same size as the MacBook trackpad. I don't have enough to do the outside lid and I probably won't bother. If I do keep this machine and it does get scratched I plan to skin or paint the lid sides and bottom another color that I would like, more than likely real carbon fibre.

It can easily be done . I have access to 3m clear film I can easily buy enough and make a template for the whole machine. It's always about making enough for your times worth and if there's enough people who want the product. Zagg is horny over the apple products because they haven't changed their unibody for several years and they sell by the boatload. With alienware now making a 14 and 18 I can bet they will laugh at the notion of making a shield kit for alienware because they have so Many low volume products.
