Hey guys , I was wondering if anyone knows how to reprogram a service tag into a mother board. My first unit had a defective screen. So they sent me another. This one had a good screen but there was a gap between to bottom case and palm rest on the left. I swapped palm rests the old to the new. Still didn't fix it. So I got fed up and ended up keeping the old one and swapping the screen to the new one . Now I want to swap the service tags so Dell doesn't ask questions. I noticed a great difference between the two laptops as far as defects. Each had their one. So I basically needed both to build a perfect one. What do you guys think of alienwares build quality. I think it kinda sucks. Last question would be.. anyone know where to get these chassis parts in case I have a similar situation ever again instead of swapping the laptop ? Would m17x r3 parts fit ? Thanks everyone.

I would simply explain the situation to Dell. I did the same thing once, swapping the entire display assembly to the original laptop. They were fine with it.

Contact Dell, there shouldn't be any problem getting this solved.

Doing it yourself is considered fraud and we don't support that around here.
