    alienware m17x purchased

    finally got another computer purchased after having to cancel my r3 order. now its just the wait for it to get here. got the m17x in black with the 740 processor 4gb of ram but will but upgrading myself to 8gb. got CF 5870s 320gb harddrive probably will be upgrading to SSD. got the high rez screen and the 6300 wireless card. let me know of little secrets i could do to improve performance or things i should know to do to it or anything. thanks guys.

    Set the power to "Balanced" and not "High Performance", unless you plan on doing some serious benchmarking.

    whats the point of using balanced?? does it really affect gaming performance and heating?? im getting an m17x too but why do u suggest using balanced?

    It would affect heating - thus louder fans, etc. when you're idle and using max performance (browsing web, watching a movie, etc.) the CPU will stay at it's max clock speed and it won't down clock itself. Set it to balanced then change any brightness settings(can't remember if balanced lowers the brightness). Balanced won't effect your gaming at all.

    have to be one of the most unlucky people on the planet. i first ordered an r3 on jan 28 then after waiting for a couple weeks i ended up cancelling it due to the problems with the chipset and didnt wanna wait. so i made the order for this r2 and know i had a EDD of monday the 7th and now i just chatted with dell and they said there is a delay on my order because or an unavailability of parts. about to drive to dell and start punching people out.

    i feel your I only waited about 2.5 weeks for mine. It felt like ages but its so worth it once you receive it. R2 is a truly awesome machine!!!

    You can probably cancel and order a R3 and get it sooner than the R2. I'll bet the reason they stopped selling the R2 days before the R3 was available is because they are low in inventory on the 1920x1200 displays.

    its weird on the fedex site it shows mine is at the destination sort facility but yet it says it will be delivered on tuesday. does fedex not deliver on monday?
