    hello

    i have a problem regarding the dell 2711 monitor. i have a mini displayport to displayport cable, but when i attach the monitor to my laptop it works fine only to a certain resolution. when i set the resolution to the max 2560x1440 it just goes blank and nothing is shown for the majority of the time. only at times the picture comes on for about a second...

    i have been reading something similar here:
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/ali...7x-r3-6870m-trouble-2560x1440-resolution.html

    i have relly no idea on how to make this thing to work. the monitor is new, the cable is new and the notebook is not that old aswell.

    it should work with no problems.

    anyone else had same problems perhaps?

    regards

    I think this has been discussed in the past and it was determined that the Intel maxes out at 1080p, and thus it can't push more even if the Nvidia card can (and with Optimus all graphics flow through the Intel). I am not sure if using an unlocked bios to disable the Intel and use only the Nvidia would solve this, hopefully someone who has tried will see this thread.

    dell support is only good for setting up appointments & sending out replacement parts :rolleyes:

    hardware is setup in the following order

    nvidia gpu > intel gpu > display

    there was some thread/post about a member manually unplugging the igpu or something.. and system failed to boot with gpu error beeps.

    the only way around the igpu is when you have the 3D screen setup.. because the nvidia gpu bypasses the igpu and goes straight to the display. this is due to hardware limitations, optimus and 3D just don't work together. at least not at the moment. i'm sure when nvidia figures it out, they'll incorporate 3D and optimus together... hmm... maybe they've already figured it out and it's all planned marketing.. haha.. i wouldn't be surprised

    my R4 w/ 3D is on the 680m all the time. intel gpu is completely disabled.

    i have normal 2d setup... so basically i am stuck with nothing :(

    i will have a dell technician come to my home as i have the NBD warranty and they have to figure out something. perhaps i can demand a replacement or something because this is not working.

    after further research i believe flashing a custom bios and disabling the intel graphic card in bios should do the trick... but dont want to mess around with my 3 year warranty worth 400 eur...

    what is the best custom bios for the m17x r3? maybe a link with some

    Your warranty is fine as long as you never mention messing with the bios. If anything goes wrong and you can't fix it just say your computer died, never ever give them specifics that you did anything ever. Even benign stuff I have seen the techs try to use as an excuse to void. Safest to always say you did nothing and things just died.

    The current best bios is Alienware_M17x_R3_BIOS_A10_unlocked__SATA_fix.zip

    I tried to upload it but it keeps saying failed, you should be able to find it with google.

    i flashed the bios disabled the intel gpu but the issue is still the same...

    i must be doomed :)

    surely there must be someone with the same problem that got solved.
    maybe i am missing something in the bios setup but i am pretty sure i got it ok.

    IGP -> ''Disable''
    Primary Display -> ''PEG''
    PEG Workaround -> ''Enable''
    Always enable PEG -> ''Enable''

    this is the things i did

    edit:

    i got the thing to work, but i have interferences and flickering.
    i will upload the video of it in "action"

    next week i will try to arrange a meeting with a dell tecnitian and check this out.
