My first r4 had problems so I was sent an exchange. This one had a small blue blemish on the screen. So they agreed to swap out the screen. Problem is they sent s refurbished screen for a one day old laptop. I'm not happy about this. What can I do ?

All parts Dell will send out have a refurbished sticker on them regardless if they are new or used so there is truly no way to know.

As long as the screen is perfect that is all that matters.

If it is bugging you that much about the screen possibly being refurbished you can always ask for a new replacement since you just got the computer.

Having owned so many Alienware M17x's M18x's etc be it new or refurbished there is no difference as long as everything is perfect and how you want it.

Because it's one day old laptop, you can always return it and order another one. There are some AW reps hanging around here, they will be able to help you with this...I personally agree with Quadzilla, it does not matter as long as it runs fine.

I think this is a little blown out of proportion. If there is something wrong with the replacement, call and demand for a replacement for your replacement. That's what I did. Supposedly the screen I have now (3rd) is brand new, but I was given nothing to confirm this. Sure did look new though.

I also had my screen replaced a few weeks ago. Looked brand new, no refurb sticker. BUT, dell do have the small print on their warranty about using refurbished parts if available so you would need to argue that this is a new machine, never worked from day 1, so either they give you a new screen or replace the whole thing (with a new one!). After 6 months of problems with my first R3 they offered me a new replacement or a refund :).

    Good luck!

Most likely support will give you a reman LCD. Now, as a mechanic, I prefer refurbished or reman parts over the new ones. They cost less and have a tendency to work better than their virgin counterparts. If having the screen brand new is that important to you, demand they replace the defective screen with a new one (but do it nicely). If they are not going to repair it to your liking, then ask to return the notebook for a refund. You have 20 days to return it for a refund, so don't let Dell lag in their repairs of your LCD so if they end up sending a reman LCD you don't want, you can call them up and initiate a return.

2 years ago, my dell xps had a screen issue, the screen went green and there were various lines across it, since this happened only during 2 days of ownership.... When I was offered a refurb screen, I demanded a complete replacement. They then sent a replacement within the next week or two, and collected my first one a few days after they sent my new one back.

It's up to you, do you have 3 years warranty? Do you really need a new one? I just prefer having new ones for the piece of mind knowing that it didn't have a problem before.

I've 3+ refurb screens straight from Dell and never had an issue with any of them. I personally wouldn't be to worried about it. ;)
