i have an alienware m17x r4 ....3d version with 2gb nvidia 675m. when i remove my charger, clock speed reduces to 74 mhz. this is the reason why all games lag without charger. plz tell me there is a fix for this. i posted this thread few months back and someone had asked me to flash a bios but it didnt work. plz give me a solution. thanks.

You can go into the power options and change them so that everything will still run at full bore but your still going to have 1/3 to 1/2 the performance from your rig. Basically your stuck that way. These rigs weren't designed to be on battery gamers. They were designed to be DTR's.

There is no solution to this. The adapter is required for adequate performance in games.

As others have said, you can make it somewhat better by adjusting power settings but you will never get full speed out of all your components by running on battery it just isn't possible. The battery just can't supply enough power to keep everything running at full speed so it clocks it down to do the best it can. Even if you could do you would find that your batter would only last for minutes at best.
These beasts were always designed to be plugged in while gaming or doing anything intensive it is just how it is. As Codename pointed out, they are Desktop Replacements more then they are laptops, the portability is just a bonus. If your close to an outlet just plug it in and your good to go, if you are not close to an outlet then unfortunately you are just going to have diminished performance from the GPU if your playing something demanding on the system. -

Say you achieved your goal anyway, your battery at best would die after a couple of rapid discharge cycles but is more likely to melt and at worst would blow your laptop apart.

Tsunade_Hime such bacon. wow
No laptop can game on battery period, most will either downclock the GPU to unusable levels as you found it, or will switch to the integrated graphics which also cannot game. And why would you want to game on battery?

Some machines with very low powered chips can get away with it but you still wont get long out of it.
Say you have a 80Wh battery. Pushing the system to the max will say draw 200w you are asking the battery to discharge in less than 25 minutes! -

That's really weird, I never noticed lag on mine, are you using all stock drivers? Even a few reviews on youtube have said the M11X doesn't down-clock the gpu when unplugged.

My battery is designed for rapid discharge and that's about an hour to discharge it all (88Wh), that's about the most you can get out of these batteries and that's with it designed to discharge quickly.

Batteries weren't designed for this type of use, and quite frankly, neither were Alienware laptop's.
For today's latest and greatest games, you aren't going to be able to truly game on the battery, period. When people think of that ultimate gaming experience, they don't think of 15~ FPS in BF3, lagging out because you're trying to play on an inadequate power source/supply. Sure, it's technically "playable," as in, it will run... But can we be realistic here? Nobody purchases an Alienware laptop expecting to be able to run Battlefield 4 on Ultra, while on the battery. It won't work.
I see undeniable plausibility in the future for this, but not today, not now, and definitely not in the Alienware 14, 17 or 18. Alienware laptop's have the unfortunate necessity to sacrifice mobility for performance. But people who buy Alienware products usually don't care about that. And if they do, they will be disappointed.Trome71 likes this. -
I also get near 15-16 hours using the intel gpu
all games lag without charger
