I've had no fewer than 12 laptop models ranging from the first toshibas and compaqs to this alienware, and only 2 of them have had this problem. my alienware, and my lenovo ideapad I had before it, have/had this problem where even the most minute movement will cause the power plug to unplug. this is very frustrating that my brother's new toshiba, my old toshiba, and my old lenovo thinkpad (all inexpensive models) can all manage to stay plugged in when on my lap or bed, but my $2200 alienware, and the $1600 lenovo before it (returned for this problem, among others) can't. I went through 2 lenovos, and several motherboards and power supplies to try to resolve it, and this is my second alienware, and second power cord, and both have done this. has anyone else notice these expensive computers seem to be cheaper in some aspects than very inexpensive models? anyone else have this problem with their R3?

My M17x R3 does not have this issue. But my m15x did have this issue. Power plug was very loose, and 2 mobo replacements didn't solve it. I really like that the m17x R3 power plugs into the back of the system.

Mine seems to be ok. It never leaves the desk though.

    Cheers,

yeah. mine lives on my bed/lap. one thing I have to praise this laptop for is it's ability to stay cool, even with no/minimal gap between the intakes and the surface. I just wish it would stay plugged in, since when it unplugs, it will sometimes crash the game with the pop up notification.

My first board didn't do that for a month. My second board held the cable in GREAT. The third board is better than the first but not the second

My XPS 1645 laptop has this problem.

Perhaps this is an entreupenurial opportunity for some Velcro, rubber band, inventors?

I don't think such a beast of a machine is suited to actually be used on your lap. After burned and crushed legs I soon figured that out ;)

when I game, I put it on a cheap "laptop stand" just to keep it that 1/4" off the bed or 1/8" off my lap, just to keep the stress off the cooling system. otherwise it stays nice and cool, though, I meant.

I really wished the M17x R3 battery was raised like the m15x battery.
