When and after the GTX 680m proves itself I will be upgrading from my GTX 580M. But to answer your question directly, I love my 580M and I am a die hard Nvidia patron, all my personal computers ( five of them ), 2 graphic servers, and the computers I build for contracts all have Nvidia cards in them. For the extra $50.00 over a comparable ATI card, I get that little extra refinement that Nvidia is known for. That refinement including the CUDA cores which I use on a daily bases as I am a graphic designer. I don't know what your exactly looking for, but Nvidia is awesome.
I hope I answered your question. -
If Dell is willing to offer me a R4 in replacement for my R3 which I will help persuade by purchasing another year of warranty
I could be the first person to get a 680m when it comes out so I'll post some benchies for the rest of y'all to decide. That is if I am successful so don't anyone get their hopes too high
Does this count as GPU upgrade?
-
I'm wait until some of our good fellow above post a couple of Benchmark and then decided......
-
I don't have a real need to upgrade, my 580m seems to handle every game I've thrown at it fairly well... and from what I'm reading the 675m is just a rebranded 580m anyway.
I'd rather spend my money on beer, I guess. -
No ill pass, the 6990M is more the capable enough for my needs, only play BF3..
-
yes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!spartaAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!
-
No real need identified at this time. My current system performance is SICK as is. I will wait for the next generation of video cards beyond the current new technology. By then I'll probably be ready for a complete system upgrade. I'm under warranty through 8/2013. Will decide closer to that date whether to extend the warranty and go for an upgrade or buy new. It will most likely make more sense to buy a new system at that point and use this one as an awesome hand-me-down gift for one of my sons. If today's latest GPU offerings beat my benchmarks by a wide margin I may change my mind, LOL.
-
YES IF.............Slick post#s a guide
-
i'll wait for slickdude too, if there would be not so much difference ill stay with 6990M (and wait for 7990M) its still has enough power to max out every game.
-
My 6990m is more than sufficient for World of Warcraft which is the only game I currently play
-
Yes as the 7970M turned out to be a behemotH of a card
. The only question now is whether to get the R4 or just the card.
-
-
I won't be upgrading anytime soon. I've had my machine for maybe a month. I've barely tapped the 580M (been playing BF3 primarily, with ultra settings). If I were to upgrade, I'd be upgrading to the 7970.

-
as soon as 680m hits dell computer parts, my order will be ready
-
need to see more than a 20-30% boost over current gpu's to justify buying a pair of these over my current setup.
i justified the 5xxx to 6xxx upgrade because the performance increase was 80 - 90%, practically almost double, like an sli/crossfire config. -
Then again, 7970s in a laptop that is designed to use two cards might see more than a 20-30% boost. The estimates are based on one card, and probably based on a system that utilizes only one card. The benefits might be even better on a 2-card system. I don't know, since I've never owned a laptop that has two video cards...just thinking out loud. -
Depends on how/if it works in the R2. If someone is willing to give it a go and it works, I'd be tempted.
Now if my wife will let me..that's a whole other story -
Look at my card now.... yes i will XD Crysis 3 MUST BE MAXED!!
-
Doubtful, we cant even max out crysis 2 as of yet.

A desktop 680 still gets put through its paces with Crysis 2 maxed.. A 580M will NOT max Crysis 2 smoothly
-
I get over 30fps in Crysis 2 with DX11 and High res textures @1080p. Obviously not the fabled 60fps but I think it's playable...
-
Banished Angel Notebook Consultant
Oh yes, playable is a very objective term though. Also, what level of AA are you applying?
-
I only have my laptop for about two months, so I won't be upgrading my GPU. I can play all games I have on maximum settings so that's really good enough for me.
-
-
Personally, I prefer FPS games to be 60FPS while RPG is okay at 30FPS. -
-
I will also wait to see what happens with the R2 before upgrading my 5870's. Hope that someone brave enough will test the cards in SLI/Xfire. But then again if the price is through the roof then it's maybe finally time to move on from the R2, but I will really miss the RGB.

Msata instead of wiHD port and Bluetooth 4.0 i think.
-
Not even the CPU has been refreshed. The GPU is the only major refresh. I suspect that the mobo is new with MXM 3.1 (PCIe 3.0), plus the sound card is different. I believe the same speakers but with Creative Soundlogic stuff instead of Klipsch.
-
-
Well I reckon if you order one now, it will have the new mobo, speakers, MXM connectors and GPUs. Just not the CPU. Remember the Ivy chipset is backwards compatible with Sandy CPUs hence why the R4 still has Sandy CPUs. Come next Monday/Tuesday, things may change.
-
i upgraded mine rom the 6970m to the 6990m and I thought it was a great improvement. I'll probably wait for the 7990m though.
are you upgrading your gpu?
