basicaly you are in the m17x-r1 equivalent of stealth mode where it uses the nvidia integreated gpu instead of the main board

Go into the BIOS and disable that piece of crap 9400. I did that the first time I turned it on the day I received it. The 9400 and 'Stealth Mode' were both dumb ideas to try to attract some of the crowd that believe a laptop should put down desktop numbers, have four hours of battery life, and weigh as much as a netbook. Kicking enthusiasts in the junk is all it accomplished.

Your cards are both there, I assure you. Disable that 9400 and your problems will likely disappear.

Disable the integrated GPU and Hybrid SLi. Set those 2 options in the system bios to disabled.

    Cheers. :)

I doubt they have the hands-on experience that some of the guys have here in the forum. We own and operate the product every day. Dell's phone support is just folks that are trying to earn a paycheck. I'm sure they're not required to even own a computer to work at the call center. They have a troubleshooting flow chart they use, and may have some hands on knowledge. I'm surprised that they don't pull this forum up and run a search for troubleshooting, honestly. I'm glad your laptop is back on track though.

Some of them however do have some knowledge like how to benchmark correctly to check for component performance issues. :) I also asked one if he had an m17x and he said that he would be getting one soon :-0

That's exactly what I did. Go into bios and turn it off. I have never used the stealth mode.
