HD6000 series mobility has not even been announced, yet...

Though I'd put it at <4 months?

The 6xxx appear to be less than the 5870....

Despite the naming scheme, however, the 6870 is not AMD’s new top-shelf GPU: The 6870 is more comparable to the older 5850, but it’s much cheaper and consumes considerably less power. The real targets AMD is gunning for here are Nvidia’s mid-priced 768MB and 1GB GeForce 460 GPUs.

5870s are still the top guns for awhile me thinks.

However, if the HD6870 mobility parts are based on the HD6870 desktop parts... :D :D :D

    It will be... awesome!

Hey man.. if you can cram a desktop 6870 in, then go ahead :D

Otherwise not yet unfortunately.. but they seem to be more medium range cards than high end.

Right, the 68xx series isn't supposed to be high-end. It's supposed to be mid-range, like the 57xx series is now.
The high-end cards will be the 59xx series. AMD changed the naming scheme for whatever reason, and since it's causing so much confusion and everybody seems to be bashing the performance and comparing them to the 58xx series, it seems it's been a bad decision to change the naming scheme.

The 6970 which is expected to be released next month is supposed to be the fastest single-GPU card and the 6990 the top end, dual GPU card. These cards are expected to be much faster. But who knows, right?

As for mobile AMD/ATi parts, they are usually announced quite a bit after the desktop counterparts are released and it takes Dell/Alienware even longer to receive enough parts to start selling them. I wouldn't expect the mobile 6xxx series to to be available in Alienware laptops until around May to August next year.
