30" Dell Ultrasharp. Although the new ones aren't as good as the old workhorses, you won't regret it.

Being in the same situation I looked at monitors a few days ago at a local store and found the LG IPS monitors were amazing.

Monitors all depend on your budget and needs. All of them will work with the R3, just depends on what you want. That one is all your call. Apparently IPS are some great vivid monitors though.

trust me on this...once you have used an IPS monitor, you'll never want to go back. Its like drinking the best wines and sampling great micro-brewery beers, then someone offers you a Bud.

Just a side note on the Dell Ultrasharp 30" monitors. I had one and sold it this last week after receiving my M17xR3. The laptop needs an adapter with Dual Link DVI-D on one end and mini display port on the other. The adapters with HDMI on one end wont work as HDMI is essentially capped at 1080p specs. When I hooked it up all i could get was 1600 X 900 or something if I remember correctly. I could not get the 2560 X 1900 that I was with my desktop out of it.

I read through a bunch of threads on a bunch of forums. I was not able to find a solution. One person mentioned something about an adapter that was over $100 at Fry's, but never replied if that solved the issue or not. Anyway, something to keep in mind if your looking at the 30" monitors.

Best? Mines running through a 27 inch Apple Cinema display, which rocks mightily

most apple products are meh, but they do know how to make some great looking screens. Have never seen one of those cinema displays with windows on it though, bet it looks beautiful ;)

here are 2 cons I would never buy one of those for:
    1) 2560-by-1440 resolution - will make your graphics struggle (equation: higher res - more lags)
    2) price tage - $1,000 you can get 3 decent IPS-matrix monitors for the same price
    3) edit: glossy screen - forget about using it in a sunny room (based on product reviews on off. website)

my conclusion: overpriced, not useful for gaming, not useful in bright light
    but that's just IMO...
