The OCZ Vertex 4 is pretty good from what I hear although many seem wary of OCZ.
I've been using the 256GB Corsair Performace Pro and it's been excellent. The Plextor M3 Pro is pretty good as well.
For a tight budget, the Crucial M4's the best bang for your buck.

OCZ Vertex 4s have the highest random and sequential reads and writes of any drive right now. I am personally wary of them, as they have had a spotty history, but as always, YMMV.

I personally endorse Crucial M4s, Samsung 830s, and Intel 520s. They each have some of the highest 4k random reads of any drive that's not the OCZ Vertex 4, and they all make everything in house. Firmware, silicon, controller...everything. That is a big reason why they are so reliable - they make everything themselves.

Each drive has its own strengths and weaknesses. The Crucial has slower reads than the Samsung, but faster writes. Ultimately, you probably won't notice that much difference. I like Crucial because they are cheap, reliable, and perform better than most.

When OCZ bought Indilinx they make their own firmware, controller etc too.

It's a little bit of a grey area to me because it is still Marvell based and not completely homegrown, but I'll concede it. Still, they get their NAND from TSMC.

EDIT - TSMC actually fabs the controller, too.

TBH there's not much of an upgrade from an R1 which likely uses PM800. The thing is your notebook doesn't support SATA 3, so all those SATA 3 SSDs will only run at SATA 2 speeds but if you get a SATA 3 notebook in the future you can utilize them.
