on any settings. i've tried multiple drivers but for now i'm on 11.10
    my setup is
    i7 1.73ghz q820
    4gb ram
    2x 4870's in crossfire

but the game lags HORRIBLY. i'm lucky to get 15fps.. heck i'm lucky to get 10.

on low, i should be able to atleast have it be partially smooth and playable, right?

what resolution are you on? Xfire 4870 should be more powerful than my 6970m. I get about 23 fps avg on caspian border, 25 on metro outdoors and 34 on metro indoors.

    I feel your pain

I tried it on both 4870 and 5870 sli and difference lag is significant

It lags on medium settings on 48 series

Runs fantastic on 58 series tho.

hmm... I'm getting ~30 FPS with everything on ultra and maxxed out at 1080p on my 6990 (with 11.10 drivers).

Edit: on the caspian which is laggy as hell but my fps are fine...
for metro i'm more like 35-40ish

    Have you tried running single-card?

Rumor has it that crossfire has some issues in BF3 still.

So 2 4870s are better than 1 5870? I have the same 17 4870 4gigs. I run everything on low and resolution is 1024 768 and can play the game but in certain times and certain points on the map I get lag.

If you are playing caspian border 64 size expect lag. I mean serious lag. Everyone is having issues no matter what PC.

i tried normal 1920x1200 and 1280x800. and i've tried with xfire and without i've even tried msi burner and no luck. but the monitor on msi doesn't even show the card(s) reaching 50%. i don't even care if i can't get medium settings now, i would like to atleast be able to just play it without lagging.

there is a special driver *beta* out for the BF3 game. I can't seem to find it anymore but it should be on the Nvidias/ATI website

I have the 5870 and I get lowest 25fps with sometimes around 60. Right now in beta leave everything at "AUTO" in the graphic settings, its the best optimized thing right now, the settings don't do much as it is in beta. Also make sure your battery setting is on performance, sometimes i will forget its on battery mode and this will tank your fps. Also make sure your graphics card is enabled and not using the intel accelerator or w.e

Hope this helps! Let me know if you have any more questions

I've done all these, unfortunately it doesn't help :\ and "auto" sets most everything to ultra

sk8rjess, if you've done everything already that you can possibly do, then i guess you have to wait for the production version of BF3 and wait for the game patches that will inevitably come. Your 4870s are doing the best they can, but they are getting long in the tooth unfortunately

update. on the subway i hit 30-40 constant. that's the best i've seen on this system yet.
but on the map after that, outside it was 6-20. mostly about 8.
i don't know about caspian yet

I feel your pain. Running single 4870M. Can run on Medium/High, no AA or AF, at max Res, for the first part, and inside the metro. Once we get to last part though, it takes a dump and becomes unplayable. 15-19 fps. Compared to 20-30 in the other areas. I have justd ecided to bite the bullet and lower to medium, and lower res to 1600 x 1200. Playable across all 3 parts of the maps now, but the last part really does hit the computer the hardest.

Pro tip: Ctrl + Alt + S, shows your FPS in game.

    guys, just quick question.....

mine (R3,6990)still run on Stock version, 11.7 i suppose. if I want to update directly into 11.10 beta 2 from slickdude link on top of this page, does I need to clean install using a driver sweeper first ?? some people says that If I'm using a stock driver, I just update the driver directly, no need to do a clean install.......

there has been much debate over this. Some people really have to do long and crazy installation procedures to get beta drivers to install...others just install over and they work. I think the only way to know is the try and I hope that it works easy for you

you can reference this thread for different methods that people have used to install the vid drivers

yup, but only contains pinned, presets, and hydravision bar, nothing else.... not even the switchable graphics......

already try a couple method for updating into 11.10.....

1st try, directly updated over stock driver, yup it's BSOD just as predict....

2nd try, using express uninstall (uninstall everything) from Ati catalyst manager. restart into safe mode, use driver sweeper, restart again. directly into 11.10 without install stock driver. the results is always failed during display graphics installer......

3rd try, do the uninstall process same in the page 2, and install the stock driver first. (the funny things, I can't go back into the stock driver :D. it fail again during install the display graphic, lucky things I have a system restore). then follow up step by step from ATI sites for updating the driver into 11.10. but something is different....

-during display graphic install process, my screen going dark ( it's normal I think..) but suddenly going into Solid White Screen & not return back to desktop. Wait a couple more time and decided to put into sleep mode and run again. display work normal, driver installation successfully for all item including display driver, then restart the system.... ( I thought it was success )

yup, the Solid White Screen is coming back when reach the logon screen. put into sleep mode, and run again. display went into normal. graphic properties like I mentioned on the top, only hydravision was seen. switchable graphics not working ( it pop up the notification when you push Fn+F7, but no dark screen whatsoever, so it failed). try to run the COD Black Ops on my system with this driver & look horrible....

    my question....

Why I always have a Solid White Screen during Display graphic installing process (11.9 and this BF3 driver) ??? Search for some people in this forum who have the problem for updating the driver, no one mentioned the white screen during installation.....

I'm using 2630QM and 6990M in case you don't know. Your help is really appreciated....

ok, despite what i'm asking on top... :D I finally getting updated into BF3 driver with no issues. Yup, it's quite annoying, but after do some research again within this forum, found some installating method that works like a charm.... and I think it will work for everyone with the same problem like me....

everything is work, Brightness setting, Switchable graphics, etc.

like he says, it requires some patience. But hey, it really works. Please give him a +rep if you succesfully using this way for update into 11.10 drivers... :D

thanks SlickDude80, you've been a great help also dude..... :D

    Hello all,

Quick question... I wanted to know your opinion on whether my current specs on my M17xR2 will be sufficient for game play with BF3. Obviously my laptop will not out perform a fully loaded desktop, but I just trying to determine if that's the route to go. Do I shell out money for a new rig or work with what I have? Specs are listed below:

    M17x-R2| i7-940XM | 8GB-1333MHz DDR3 RAM | ATI HD5870 CrossFireX | 17" 1920x1200 RGB LED | 500GB 7.200rpm HDD | Bluetooth 370 | Intel WiFi 6300 | Windows 7 Home Premium

Any thoughts or information would be greatly appreciated,
    Bone
