Just got a new M17X R3 last week. Everything works fine with it (FINALLY... after spending the weekend doing a fresh install of Windows 7 and mucking about with drivers for far too long...)

However, the blu-ray drive leaves a long smudge streak on the disk whenever it's ejected. It's not a scratch (although that was my first horror thought) and the marks can be wiped off with a cloth. The streak goes from the center of the disk out to the edge on the farside of the disk from where you grab it to remove it. No matter how I remove the disc it's always there and its always there regardless of the make of disc.

Has anyone else had this problem? If I call up Dell support will they ship me a new drive to swap out (I can do that) or force me to send the whole unit back?

They will send someone out to repalce it (in home service) before they make you send it back, unless thats ultimately what you want, is to have a brand new one that totally works to your satisfactoin from the factory. just remeber you have a 21 days window from the time it comes in from the factory to send it back for the replacement, otherwise it will be up to them to replace it.

Oh no no no... I've seen the horror stories here. It works FINE and I don't wanna send it back! (Well... y'know, unless the new GPU's come out in a few days... :D )

I don't have much experience with slot load drives though and I'm trying to figure out if this is a break-in issue or not.

I had it happen to me once. I think when I pulled the disk out I pulled it under a slight angle or I pushed the disk down. It left smudge streak on my disk that I was able to wipe off.

I think it is the glue that hold the lips in place which keep the hole shut.

It didn't happen again but I'm kind of wondering if I should have it replaced as well. I heared that you have to remove the screen to get it replace and it kind of scares me. I don't want some newbie tech ruin my machine.
