as in toppic, i really dont understand why sometimes i am unable to lower my screen brightness via FN key. Why did dell build-in so many flaws to this laptops ?

I am always able to adjust it UP, but not down.

    This happens randomly.

i had the same issue after i reinstalled windows 7 on my SSD. Something was corrupted. A reinstallation of the OSD program solved it for me

Mine does this after waking from sleep from time to time. Quick restart always fixes it.

^^ I get this sometimes. Like jwolf says, a simple restart fixes it. It's always the OSD giving everyone problems.

I have good/bad news to you: Dell generally make flaws to their laptops.
I own a Latitude E6520 and I see the same many times.
Sometimes I can change the brightness with Fn+up/down, sometimes not.
Sometimes the changes displayed by the OSD sometimes not.
The fingerprint reader is the same... It works sometimes and sometimes doesn't and I can't guess when and why...

The quality of Dell's hardware and software... Isn't really good... If I ever buy a new machine, it can be any kind, except Dell...
Very sorry that I bought Dell.

(and I hope that I wrote these things in English... ;-) )

Yep, Dell/Alienware has a lot of flaws in their products.

I have a similar issue sometimes. The way I was able to fix it is to flash the BIOS of the motherboard. Then everything was working fine.
